CLINTON – Dhanis (Danny) Lloyd Burgess, 58, passed away on Sept. 24, 2014 at his home in Clinton after a short battle with cancer.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1956 in New Britain, Conn., the son of Richard Charles and Lyla Mae (Holt) Burgess. He was educated in Waterville area schools. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. JFK until his honorable discharge in 1975.

In 2000, he met the love of his life, Tish Chute, at the Unity Raceway where Danny was a driver in the race. He was a second generation driver of the Burgess family and worked as a mechanic for many years. He had his own cab, DNB taxi, for many years as well as working for other companies. Danny was a member of the Oakland American Legion.

He was “born to race,” loved working on his race cars, loved music, especially country, always happy to be with his friends and talk about racing and he “loved women.”

Danny is survived by his life partner, Tish Chute of Clinton; three sons: Aric Burgess of Weeks Mills, Jamie Burgess and wife Joann of Litchfield, Matthew Hoyt of Norridgewock; daughter, Stephanie Bradford and husband Robert “BJ” of Fairfield; four grandsons: Brian Bellows of Waterville, Christopher Peace II of Fairfield, Cody Peace of Fairfield, John Maietta of Peekskill, New York; three granddaughters: Grace Burgess of Weeks Mills, Kathleen Burgess of Weeks Mills, Keisha Peace of Fairfield; brother, Ricky Burgess, Sr. and wife Dany of Waterville and many cousins and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father and mother, Richard C. Burgess and Lyla Libby; and sister Diana Kitchin. A special thanks to both Gwen, the nurse from Healthreach and Hospice for her love and care, and to his racing family, as they made up a huge part of his life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
