FARMINGTON – Doris F. Munson, 89, a resident of Sandy River Nursing Care Center, Farmington for nearly five years, formerly of Wilton, died peacefully, with family at her side, on Friday Jan. 4, 2019.

She was born on the June, 3, 1930, in Bangor, the daughter of William and Gladys Fowler. A graduate of Bangor High School, she continued her education at a secretarial school in Lewiston.

On March 10, 1956, in Wilton, she married the love of her life, Holman A. Munson. He predeceased her on Dec. 3, 2001.

Doris was a devoted homemaker and also worked outside of the home, beginning at G. H. Bass and later retired as traffic manager at Foresters Inc. An instinctive caregiver, she dedicated over 20 years of her time as a volunteer at Franklin Memorial Hospital, and when she became a fulltime resident of SRNCC, while she was able, was known as an official volunteer greeter at the Center. She was a long-time member of the Wilton UCC where she sang in the church choir and became a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. She was a wonderful cook and will be remembered for her enjoyment of baking and nourishing others with the results of her baking skills. She enjoyed flowers, sewing and canning.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by their five year old son, Scott who died on Nov. 12, 1968 and their grandson, Jeremy Munson who died on Nov. 11, 2007, and her brother, Rev. Donald Fowler.

She leaves four children: Stephen Munson and Susan Beauchesne, both of Wilton; Carol Thomas and her husband, Cory of Greene and Nancy Richard and her husband, Armand of Mechanic Falls; four grandchildren: Carrie, Dyan, Michele and Nicole and 7 Great- Grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Shirley Fowler of Penn.; a niece Beth Larson of PA; and a nephew, Jimmy Fowler and his wife, Kathy of VA. Her family wishes to thank the SRNCC and AHCH for the wonderful care given to their mother; and a heartfelt thank you for her CNA “twin”, Gayle, for extra devotion and friendship. They are forever grateful.

Public graveside services will be held on her birthday June 3, 2019 at 2 PM at Lakeview Cemetery, Wilton. Following services, family and friends are welcome to attend a reception at the Munson Home in Wilton. Remembrance gifts may be given to the Franklin Cty. Animal Shelter 550 Industry Rd., Farmington, Maine 04938.

  1. My sincere sympathy to Doris’ family. I so enjoyed her when working together at Bass. She shared one of the funniest snowblower stories about Holman that I have ever heard, it still makes me smile. Rest in peace, dear lady.

  5. Condolences to all the Richard’s family.I used to work with Doris at Forster’s and camped many years with Armond and Nancy at Dummers beach.Doris will be missed by many as she was a wonderful person.
