Edward J. Derby, Sr. (1947-2016)

SKOWHEGAN – Edward J. Derby, Sr., 69, of Fairfield, went home to be with his Lord on Aug. 12, 2016 with his wife and friend by his side.

He was born in Philadelphia, Penn.,  on March 11, 1947, to Edward and Mary (McTyghe) Derby.

Edward graduated from Springford High School in Royersford, Penn. in 1964. He enlisted into the Navy right out of high school and made a career of it;
traveling all over the world, including across the equator, on 13 different ships.

Edward was married to Regina Shorey on Aug. 18, 2007 and shared two sons with her. He enlisted on March 31, 1965 and retired as a machinist mate senior chief (surface warfare) on July 31, 1990 earning many medals, and awards, including The Navy Achievement Medal.

Edward is survived by his wife, Regina Derby and their two children: Brandon Derby, 12, and Austin Derby, 9, of Fairfield; two sisters: Helen Ewing and husband Charles of Pennsylvania and Janie Derby of Pennsylvania; five children: Son Kirk Derby and wife Jazmin of Texas, daughter, Nichole Derby/Moore and husband Mark Jr. of Texas, Chris McCarthy and wife Dachelle of Maine, Josh Derby of Maine, and Ryan Derby of Maine; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Edward was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mary Derby; and two sisters, Patty Dillon and Marie Goodolf; a son, Edward J. Derby Jr.

A graveside service will be held noon Friday, Aug. 26, 2016 at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 Gold Street in Clinton immediately following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, donations for his family can be sent to Edward Derby Memorial fund, c/o Regina Derby, 247 Main St., Lot D, Fairfield, ME 04937.

  2. I love you Uncle Ed. May you soar with the angels. Say hi to Daddy, Grammy, Grampa and Uncle Gary for me. You were an amazing Uncle, Dad and Husband. You will be greatly missed by us all.
