LIVERMORE FALLS – Elaine Emerson Smith, 60, a resident of Livermore Falls, died peacefully, Tuesday, Feb. 18, with her devoted family by her side, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 11, 1953 in Castine, the daughter of W. Merritt Emerson and Ethel (Paradis) Emerson. She was a 1972 graduate of Mount Blue High School in Farmington. Elaine continued her studies at Thomas College receiving her BA in Fashion Retail. On April 19, 1980 in North Chesterville, she married her husband of 33 years, Kenneth Smith.
In Elaine’s earlier years she had worked at Stop-n-Go in Livermore Falls, Goodwin’s Dairy in Auburn, Green Acres in Farmington, Camp Somerset in Smithfield, as a manager at Wellby Drug Store, in Livermore Falls, having been named manager of the year and earning a trip to Florida for her and her family, Rite Aid in Livermore Falls; she was owner and operator of the Book Nook in Livermore Falls; and had recently been the Library Director at Treat Memorial Library in Livermore Falls. Elaine had also served as a volunteer, substitute teacher and school board member for SAD #36.
Elaine enjoyed crocheting, reading, puzzles, but especially loved the time she spent with her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and she will be deeply missed by her family.
She is survived by her husband, Ken Smith of Livermore Falls; her son Scotti Smith and his wife Tiffany of Auburn; her daughter, Amie Smith and fiancé Donald White of Livermore Falls; granddaughter, Catherine Smith, Elaine’s brother, Sanford “Sandy” Emerson and his wife Kathy of Wilton; along with many loving and loved Smith family brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Gene Emerson.

Elaine Emerson Smith, 60, a resident of Livermore Falls, Maine. Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, March 2nd at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM, prior to the funeral service.
A wonderful lady. Elaine will be sadly missed by a lot of people.
My sincere condolances to Elaine’s family. She and I were neighbors and friends when we were very young girls and she will always hold a special place in my heart.
