Eleanor Marie “Ellie” Gilligan (1946-2013)

FARMINGTON – Eleanor Marie “Ellie” Gilligan, 66, of Chesterville, died unexpectedly of natural causes in the Emergency Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 24, 2013.

She was born July 7, 1946, in Boston, Mass., a daughter of Anthony and Dorothy (Eldridge) Salerno. She received her education in Massachusetts schools and worked for over 30 years as a secretary for the City of Quincy.

Four years ago, she retired to Chesterville, Maine, with her companion and soulmate of over 30 years, Bernard Boire. She enjoyed gardening, cheering for the Boston Bruins, and caring for her family.

Together, she and Bernie, raised her grandson, Bryan Gilligan, who survives her of Abbington, Mass.

She is also survived by Bernie of Chesterville; her son, Sean Gilligan of Quincy, Mass.; one sister; Dorothy “Dottie” Morin and her husband, Robert “Bob” Morin of Chesterville; two brothers: Anthony “Stormy” Salerno and his wife, Kathleen of Hingham, Mass.; and John “Jack” Salerno and his wife, JoAnn of Carver, MA.; Bernie’s children: Philip Boire and his wife, Julia of Norwood, Mass; Kathy Limbert and her husband, Mark of New Hampsire; Diane Hutchins and her husband, Jimmy of Quincy, Mass. and Jackie Boire of Rhode Island and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by Bernie’s daughter, Mary Jane Boire and her parents.

Private family services with Rev. Thomas Lequin of St. Rose of Lima Church, Jay, officiating. Family and friends are invited to share condolences and tributes on her memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.

  1. Bernie, I will miss her at the Harvest House.She always had a smile on her face and was very nice to all of us. I Am so sorry for your loss,my thoughts are with you during this difficult time.It was nice meeting your daughters but I was saddened by the news. God Bless you and i will keep you in my prayers
