RANGELEY – Elliot Lyn Plummer, 93, of Rangeley, died early Saturday morning, April 16, 2011 at his home in Rangeley following a short illness.

He was born on May 8, 1917, in Phillips, the son of, Marion (Plummer) Dodge. In his early years, he made his home with his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Hayden Plummer in Phillips.

Elliot served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a private with Company B 709th Military Police Battalion of Camp Washington in Rhode Island. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 16, 1943.
During his time in the service on a trip home, he met the love of his life, June Davenport and after his discharge they were married on March 5, 1944. They spent their first few years in Madrid, where they celebrated the birth of their daughter, Mary Lynne Plummer and then moved to Rangeley in 1951.

As a young man, Elliot worked as a woodsman and trucker. Later on in life he worked as a mechanic for the Forest Manufacturing Company and Hamn Garage. For the last 27 years of his work life, he was employed by D.C. Morton in Rangeley.

In his retirement, Elliot greatly enjoyed walking downtown, working in his garden and was known as the town’s overseer and supervisor. He was seen at every project that was going on in the town giving his opinion and thoughts on how the work was going. He was an ardent family man and was liked or loved by everyone who knew him.

Elliot is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, June Davenport Plummer of Rangeley; his daughter, Mary Tilas and her husband, John N. of Beverly, Mass.; a grandson, John Rhoades of Indianapolis, Ind.; two great grandsons; two loving and caring sisters-in-law, Eleanor Guevremont and her husband, Jerome and Margaret Davenport, all of Rangeley; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Hayden Dustin of Phillips and Norman Dustin of St. Petersburg, FL.

Memorial graveside services will be held later in the spring at the Evergreen Cemetery in Rangeley, time and date to be announced. Arrangements are in the care of the Wiles Funeral Home, Cremation Service & Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington.
