Everett “Duff” Austin Wilcox (1949-2012)

CANTON POINT - Everett “Duff” Austin Wilcox, 62, died on July 29, 2012 at his home in Canton Point, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Farmington  on Nov. 28, 1949, the son of Richard E. And Phebe (Phillips) Wilcox. He was educated in the schools of Phillips and graduated from Phillips High School, class of 1968. He served in the US Army being stationed in the United States from 1969 to 1971.

In his early years, he worked for L.A. Grocers in Lewiston and later on for Allen Pond Campground until ill health forced his retirement in 2008. Duff enjoyed hunting, fishing, writing short stories and reading Westerns. He had made his home in Canton Point for the past 22 years.

He is survived by; his father, Richard Wilcox of Avon; three brothers, Scott Wilcox of Canton Point, Lance Wilcox of Phillips, and Dale Wilcox of Avon; two sisters, Candy Wilcox of Avon and Belle Wilcox of Phillips; one son, Willie Wilcox of Greene; and one step daughter, Shellie Presby of Avon.

Services will be held at a later date. Interment will be at the Mile Square Cemetery in Avon. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, ME.

  6. We always called him "willie" growing up- he and his family were about our closest neighbors. Haven't seen him for years but I always thought a lot of him when I was a kid. He was mature beyond his age, kind as could be, and "straightened" me out a few times with words of wisdom when I was young. God bless.

    I"ll miss talking with you on the phone, laughing about "when we were young
    and foolish" and admitting not much had changed, except we got older. I don't
    know why we kept putting off the "chinese dinner" for the last 3or 4 years, but I"m
    really glad I got to see you.
    Thank you Scott and Belle and all who were with him during the tough times.
    You are gone way too soon, old friend.
