FARMINGTON – Floyd J. Adams Jr. “Jimmy,” 75, of Farmington passed away Feb. 16, 2019 at the Sandy River Center.

He was born in Wilton on June 29, 1943 the son of Floyd J. Adams Sr. and Leona E. Cochran.

He attended school in Wilton graduating from Wilton Academy in 1962. As a young man he went to work for Kenneth and Harold Foster and then later for Clifford Chase as a finish carpenter. He bought the family farm on Knowlton Corner road in 1966 and became a self-employed tree farmer and raised many crops and different types of livestock over the years. He continued to work the farm until his retirement due to ill health in 2018.

Jimmy’s favorite part of farming was the Oxen. From the very beginning he started out with “Jim & Bob”, a beautiful pair of Roan Short Horn steers that went on to be award winning Oxen. He instilled the love of the animals into his five children.

He was always one to help his friends, either through the Grange or youth football or even just on their farms. Putting his carpentry skills to good use, Jimmy created many sought after novelties out of wood, including bird houses, spoons and decorative signs.

He is survived by daughters Rebekah Adams of Farmington, Rachel Sprague and her husband Michael of Sidney, sons, Ross Adams of Massachusetts, and Ryan Adams and his wife Jennifer of Derby, Conn. Fifteen grandchildren, a great-grandson Jaxson Fernandez, a sister Carolynn Adams Foss and a brother Vernon Adams.

Jimmy is predeceased by a son Roderick, his parents, his step father Henry Disotto, his brother Clifford, his sister Barbara Jean and two granddaughters Jossilyn and Zelena.

A memorial service will be held Friday Feb. 22, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the East Wilton Union Church with a reception to follow. Donations may be made in his memory in lieu of flowers to the Farmer Steer and Oxen Club c/o Lexi Merrifield treasurer 151 Pope Rd. Chesterville, ME 04938. A celebration will be held in April TBD on the family farm. Arrangements are under the care of Wiles Remembrance Center; Adams-McFarlane Chapel 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington.

  3. My condolences to Jimmy’s family I knew Jimmy for long time we had a lot of experiences on the pond.

  4. My family grew up in Dryden with his family. Knew his parents and Henry Disotto. His oxen were amazing. Our family will miss him.
