Fred M. Weld (1915 – 2015)

DIXFIELD – Fred M. Weld, 95, (Boston Post Cane Holder) of Dixfield, passed peacefully in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by family in the early morning hours of Wednesday July 29, 1915.

A Dixfield native, he was the son of Frank and Sue (Spaulding) Weld. He was a 1938 graduate of Dixfield High School.

He married his soulmate, Irene Perry, on March 13, 1942 and they lived in Dixfield all of their lives. He was a WWII Veteran, having served with the US Army in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Normandy. He was a life member of the VFW.

For 45 years, he was the parts manager at Morrison Motors in Mexico.

Fred loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing and cruising T3R4 with his best buddies Ed Wright and Jim Fuller. He also enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Webb Lake with his family and closest friends.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Irene, of Dixfield; their son, Bruce Weld and his wife, Sheila of Dixfield; a granddaughter, Jennifer Weld of Pompano Beach, Florida and a sister, Evelyn Ionta and her husband, Bitsy of DIxfield. He was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Saunders.

Following cremation, burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Wilton. Private family services will be held at the family cottage on Webb Lake in Weld. Remembrance gifts may be given to the Franklin County Animal Shelter, 550 Industry Rd. Farmington, Me. 04938.
