RUMFORD – Grace A. Brooks, 88, of Dixfield, passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 at Rumford Community Hospital with her loving daughter and grandson by her side.
Grace was born May 11, 1926 a daughter of Charles and Viola (Martin) Karl. Upon completing high school, Grace went on to work as a telephone operator before beginning her family on Long Island, New York. Grace was a strong woman, courageously raising ten children. She moved to Maine 25 years ago.
She was a homebody who took pride in tending to her flower gardens. She enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting as well as completing cross word puzzles in the comfort of her own home. Most of all, she loved the company of her family.
Grace is survived by her children, Patricia Hamer and her husband, Stephen of Maine, Dawn Brooks of Dixfield, Frederick C. Brooks of New York, Cynthia Weaver and her husband Richard of Maine, June Morales of North Carolina, Lawrence Brooks of New York and Karl Frederick of Maine; 19 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her children, Grace “Gigi” Brooks, Diane Farrar, and Dale Sanchez.
