Grace Gervasi Beacham

FARMINGTON - Grace Gervasi Beacham, age 92 of Farmington, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, August 6, 2012 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Graybert and Karen Beacham with them at her bedside.

Grace was born on May 9, 1920 in Vineland, New Jersey and pursued a degree in vocal music at both the Philadelphia Music Academy (where she met her husband Bob) and New York College of Music. Grace and Bob lived for many years in Chattanooga Tennessee, where they raised two boys. Grace studied visual arts in Tennessee and became an accomplished painter. While living in Tennessee, Bob and Grace were active in local opera performances and served on the boards of artistic organizations.

In 1995 they moved to Farmington, Maine to be close to their family, where Grace could more easily care for her husband who was in failing health from Alzheimer’s disease. Grace was active in the Farmington community for several years, serving on the boards of both the Arts Institute of Western Maine and Mount Blue TV. She learned videography as a volunteer with Mt. Blue TV and recorded many performances at Nordica Auditorium for broadcast. With help from Station Director JP Fortier, she also filmed, produced and narrated several shows about the arts that ran for years on the public access station.

Grace loved her family and lived her life with a constant vision of their care and well-being in mind. Many people who knew her described her as an individual with both “spunk” and grace. More than a few of her acquaintances mentioned that she was aptly named.

She will be missed by friends and family, but will never be forgotten. Grace was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob), and is survived by her two sons: Graybert Beacham of Farmington, and his wife Karen; and Robert Beacham of Farmington, his wife Nancy, and her two granddaughters Adrienne and Gwendolyn.
