Guy A. Durrell, Jr.

He was born Oct. 11, 1939 on Eustis Ridge, a son of Guy A. and Rena (Church) Durrell, Sr. He received his education in Stratton schools and on March 5, 1966, married Theresa Craney of Wilton at the Bean’s Corner Baptist Church in Jay.

For a number of years, he built roads with Dana Fotter and Roland Fotter before driving logging trucks for Joe Berube of Stratton. He then worked for the Dead River company where he learned how to install flooring and later opened Durrell’s Carpet Service which he owned and proudly operated with his daughter Carla and son John for 44 years, with locations in Livermore Falls, Farmington and Stratton.

He was an artist at his trade and his strong work ethic and generous spirit found him on more than one occasion bartering with folks who needed his company’s product and skills, but might need some leniency with their bill. He was a humble person who quietly and conscientiously connected with his community and supported such things as providing shirts for little league teams, plowing out church parking lots or offering to do something that was needed, but Guy would want no accolades.

He was a lifelong Red Sox fan, (a New England sports’ passion he shared with his mom) and was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, partridge hunting, ATV, snowmobiling, gardening and working on his firewood.

He will be missed by his family who loved and supported him through the difficult process of what is called “the long goodbye:” Alzheimers. Guy joins very special friends Bob and Carol Gray.

He is loved by his wife of 48 years, Theresa, of Embden; children: Susan Moors and her companion, Doug Wade, of Rumford Point; Carla Proctor and her husband, Martin of New Vineyard and John Durrell of Stratton; five grandchildren: Tori Bolduc and her companion Dave Blais, Laci Churchill and her husband, Brian, Treva Moors, Marisa Moors and her companion Joe Krech and Zackary Whitney; seven great grandchildren: Dominic Irish, Briana Churchill, Ethan Blais, Bailey Churchill, Claire Krech, Alexis Blais and Carter; a brother, Robert Durrell, Sr. of North Jay; cousins: Arvilla Pease and her husband, Peter of Stratton and Joanie Corson of Madison; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his folks and three half brothers: Ernest Dyer, Olian Dyer, Leslie Dyer.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. from the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Rd., (Rtes. 2 & 27) Farmington. Remembrance gifts may be given to the Maine Alzheimer’s Association 383 US Route One #2C Scarborough, Maine 04074. Tributes and condolences may be shared on his memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
