AUBURN – Hazel L. Gordon, 94, passed at the Androscoggin Hospice House Monday night on April 14, 2014, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Strong on Jan. 24, 1920, the daughter of Ranald  C. and Eunice I. Walsh. She attended Phillips schools. She married Leroy Gordon Sr. at the age of 21 and was a homemaker while her husband was serving in WWII as a medic.

She went to work at J.J. Newberry’s in Farmington for 9 years in the mid 1950s. She then went to work at Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center for over  20 years in the kitchen, retiring at the age of 69.

Hazel enjoyed going for walks, drawing pictures, and studying healthy nutrition as a hobby. She loved traveling around New England and Canada with her family, especially spending time on the Maine coast.

Survivors include three daughters: Shirley Robinson of Wilton, Patricia Gordon of Temple and Irene Oliver of Farmington; a son Leroy Gordon Jr. and his wife Alberta of Wilton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is predeceased by her husband, four sisters: Mildred Howard, Doris Tyler, Grace Williams and Rena Melvin.

A graveside service will be held later in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in Farmington. Donations may be made in her memory to the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice 15 Strawberry Avenue, Lewiston, Maine 04240.
