WATERVILLE – Henry “Hank” Albert, 92, of Waterville passed away peacefully on Aug. 20, 2014, with his wife and son by his side.

He was born on Oct. 13, 1921 in Hartford, Conn., the son of Sidney P. and Helen C. (Joduski) Albert. His childhood was spent in Hartford, Conn., Arlington, Mass., Brockton, Mass., and Providence, R.I. He was a graduate of Brockton High School, Mitchell College, and the University of Hartford, earning an associate in engineering from Mitchell and a bachelor of science degree in physical science from the University of Hartford.

During WWII, he worked in the Cedar St. Laboratory of Grinnell Corporation in Providence, R.I. It was there that Henry realized that Applied Metallurgy was to be his life’s work. After nine years with Grinnell, he accepted the opportunity to install a metallurgical laboratory at Electric Boat Company in Groton, Conn.

During the next 35 years, Henry designed and taught a metallurgy course for Electric Boat. He was a co-author on a paper presented at a national forum on corrosion. He was also certified as the expert on evaluating qualified weld test specimens, prepared by nuclear welders. He retired as senior supervisor in 1988.

Henry is survived by his loving wife, Doris Albert, whom he affectionately called “Mickey;” he will be greatly missed by his sons, Joseph and his children, John, JoAnn, and Sam, and Karl Albert, Karl’s wife Shauna Albert, and his great granddaughter, Isis Albert; his daughter, Donna Lee Albert, step daughter, Cynthia Levey, and her children James and Scott Levey.

He was predeceased by his parents, Sidney and Helen Albert, and his stepdaughter, Susan Connor.

Henry’s family would like to extend thanks to the many caregivers at MaineGeneral Hospice and Lakewood Long-Term Care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
