FARMINGTON – Herbert C. Lakin, 87, of Wilton passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Sandy River Center for Health Care.

He was born on March 17, 1927, the son of Herbert F. and Sara Lakin. He attended school in Wilton before going to work as a farmer and at various other jobs including The Wood Turning Mill in New Vineyard, at local shoe shops, and driving truck.

In 1968 he married Gloria Lakin in Salem. Herbert enjoyed fishing, going to church at The Lighthouse Baptist Church in Phillips, and especially going to the Franklin County Fair each Fall.

Herbert is survived by his wife Gloria; two daughters Dorothy Louise Ridlon of Avon and Meredith Lakin of Gardiner; three sons, Frank Lakin and his wife Martella of Salem, George Lakin and his wife Karlyne of Wilton, and Almond Lakin and his wife Tammy of Avon; several other children that live out of state; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his sister Zelma Bubier and his son Robert.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 28th at 2 p.m. at Miles Square Cemetery in Avon with Pastor Brian Rebert officiating.   1. Herb was a quiet man who loved his town of Avon. He had a great love for his family that showed in his face whenever he spoke of them. My condolences to his family during this sad time.
