Herman H. Ellis (1930 – 2015)

FARMINGTON – Herman H. Ellis, 85, of Stratton, died in the early morning hours of Monday, May 18, 2015 at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 31, 1930 in Eustis, a son of Florin and Rachel (Hatch) Ellis.

He received his education in local schools and was a veteran, having served in the United States Army.

He married Kathleen Targett on March 2, 1952, and celebrated 55 years of marriage while proudly raising a family of 8 children. She passed on March 25, 2007.

He worked in the woods on lumbering operations all of his life, mostly as a lumberjack but also a heavy equipment operator. He was a true woodsman in every respect, his hobbies almost exclusively being hunting and fishing, and most specifically loved Deer hunting.

His seven children survive him:  Herman S. Ellis and his wife, Melanie of New Vineyard, Andrew M. Ellis and his wife, Venda of Kingfield; Noel K. Ellis and his wife, Diane of Farmington; Greta J. Ellis and her companion, Fred Gallop of Stratton; Marjorie R. Ellis and her husband, Harold Williams of Naples; Meredith A. Coits and her husband, Ed of Stratton and Nellie K. Thoits and her husband, Rick of Poland; 20 Grandchildren and 37 great- grandchildren; one brother, Sumner Ellis of Newburyport, MA.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Copp, and sister, Jean Cummings.

The Ellis family welcomes you to a Celebration of Life/Memorial Service which will be held on June 7, 1 p.m. at the Stratton Community Building. Cremation services are in the care of the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Rd., (Rtes. 2 & 27) Farmington.
