FAYETTE — Howard D. Jackson, 71, of New Vineyard, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 in Fayette.

Howard was born on Dec. 31, 1943, a son of Ruphelle (Lambert) and Howard S. Jackson.

He received his education from local schools, graduating from Livermore Falls High School in 1963. Howard went on to start his career as a carpenter, learning the trade from his brother, Tim. He entered the United States Army in 1964 and humbly served his country for four years. For a period of time he was employed at International Paper, and later for Fred Whittier, but primarily worked for himself as a carpenter which he enjoyed thoroughly.

On May 4, 1985, he married Leita Lovell and shared 30 years of marriage together.

Howard was a Maine outdoorsman and spent much of his free time camping and doing what he was most passionate about, fishing. Howard would travel to various lakes and ponds fishing and ice fishing. He was a quiet man, but was not shy when it came to food! He enjoyed a square meal, whether it was at the dinner table or socializing over refreshments at the East Wilton Union Church, where he became active in recent months.

Although he retired six years ago, Howard continued to work as a carpenter, most recently working on a job in Isle au Huat off the coast of Stonington, which was an area he loved. He also enjoyed reading, particularly books by Maine Authors, and westerns, most notably William Johnstone.

He is survived by his loving wife, Leita Jackson of New Vineyard; children, Howard Kevin Jackson of New Vineyard, Matthew Jackson and his wife, Jennifer of Vassalboro, Craig Jackson and his wife, Ruth of Oakland; step-children, Dale Kuczinski of Lewiston, Beth Paradis and her husband, Joe of Industry, John Sinskie and his wife, Carrie of Idaho, Melissa Conley and her husband, Tim of Virginia, and Michele Bailey and her husband, Konrad of Farmington; a brother, Timothy Turcotte and his wife Brenda of Livermore; a sister, Alta Martin of North Jay; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

  3. Howard was a sweet and gentle person. Our children(grown now) remember him as well as a gentle man. One of their favorite memories was Howard always saying let’s go roast some hot dogs. He will be greatly missed.
