SKOWHEGAN – Jeffrey Dana Smith, 66, of Skowhegan died unexpectedly at home on October 25, 2014 following a battle with illness.

Jeff, as he was known to many, was born on Feb. 2, 1948 in Harrington, the son of Raymond E. and Julia A. (Strout) Smith. Jeff attended grammar school in Harrington and was a 1966 graduate of Cherryfield-Harrington High School.

Jeff proudly served his country in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Army from 1967 until being honorably discharged in 1969.

On Oct. 23, 1971, Jeff married Sharon K. Strout of Cherryfield and they began their lifelong journey. Together they enjoyed Nascar, the Bruins, and the Red Sox. Jeff also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren whom he loved dearly and their many outings to local dining establishments kept a smile on his face. For many years Jeff could also be found coaching with the PAL program in Fairfield.

Over the years Jeff was employed as a maintenance technician at Thayer and Seton hospitals, a bus driver and adult driver education teacher at MSAD 49 in Fairfield and a bus driver and drivers’ education instructor at MSAD 37 in Harrington.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sharon of Skowhegan; his son Christopher and his wife Jennifer, of Newport, N.H., along with their three children: Kathryn, Joshua, and Leila; his daughter Kimberly Mills and her husband Adam of Winslow, and their twin boys Christopher and Caleb; a special niece Ellen Alexander, of Brewer and her family; special neighbors Dave, Shelia, Chris and Lynda, along with many friends and extended family.

Following Jeff’s wishes there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. There will be a Celebration of Life on Nov. 15, from 1-3 p.m. at the Tewksbury Building behind the Skowhegan Federated Church, 13 Island Avenue, Skowhegan.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make donations can do so in Jeff’s memory to the American Heart Association, Maine Affiliate, 51 US Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074 or the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 2208, Augusta, ME 04330.
