John was born on Sept. 17, 1949, a son of Louis and Joan (Tardy) Martin. He attended Dirigo High School, graduating in the class of 1970. After graduation, John entered into the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably served his country for four years ranking sergeant upon his discharge. He then began working at Daniels Construction before starting his career with International Paper in Jay, never crossing the picket line during the strike.

He worked for North East Construction and David Smith during the strike and then returned back to the mill. John was an extremely hard worker who proudly worked at I.P. for over 30 years, retiring in the spring of 2014.

John was a Jack-of-all-trades who enjoyed hunting and everything the Maine outdoors has to offer. John was an animal lover (especially cats) and enjoyed watching Nascar and New England sports teams.

Above all, John was a family man and will be sorely missed by all.
