Joshua Allan Lavine (1981-2013)

WILTON – Joshua Allan Lavine, 31, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 9, 2013.

He was born in Lewiston on Sept. 10, 1981, the son of Al and Carol Lavine. Often described as a gentle giant because of his 6’7” stature and his kind and thoughtful ways, he was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend.

Josh attended St. Dominic Regional High School and graduated from Leavitt Area High School in 2000. He played football, lacrosse and was well known as an outstanding hockey goalie. He graduated from the United States Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, N.J. in 2000 and was first stationed near Virginia Beach, Virginia.

In 2002, he lived with his sister Carly in Baltimore, MD where he worked at PALL Corporation, a broad-based filtration, separation and purification company. He was an accomplished welder and most recently employed at Cianbro Corporation in Maine.

A few years after returning to Maine, he met his fiancée Alison. In 2008, they celebrated the birth of their son Madden.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, weight training and spending time with family.

He is survived by his fiancée, Alison Decastro and his four-year-old son, Madden, both of Wilton; his parents, Al and Carol Lavine of Lexington,VA; maternal grandmother, Loraine Wright of Litchfield; three sisters and brothers in-law, Eugene and Kristen McCabe (Bernier), of Lexington, VA, Ryan and Rachel Gaskill (Bernier) of Margate, NJ, and Jeremy and Carly Farkas ( Bernier) of Baltimore, MD; as well as six nieces and two nephews.

He was predeceased by; his maternal grandfather, David Wright; and paternal grandparents, George and Doris Lavine.

All who knew him loved him dearly and he will live on in our hearts.

Donations for a trust fund for Madden K. Lavine may be sent to Carol Lavine, 4 South Lewis Street, Lexington, VA 24450. Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington, ME 04938. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn.

  2. SO sorry to hear of your loss. This is proving to be a difficult year already with so many good people leaving us too soon. I hope your family gets through this and the memory of who Josh was to you will always be close to your heart. My thoughts are with you.

  3. I was very late in finding this out it but my thoughts are with Alison and madden! So unfair to have a loved one lost so soon!
