FARMINGTON – Katherine Clara (Hodsdon) Sirois, 94, died peacefully on October 27, 2014, at Franklin Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. After living for many years on the Knowlton Corner Road, and with her daughter, she had resided at the Sandy River Health & Rehabilitation Center in Farmington for the past six years.

She was born June 18, 1920, in Byron, the daughter of Arthur and Grace (Thompson) Hodsdon, and attended schools in Rumford, graduating in 1938 from Stephens High School. She studied in the St. Mary’s Hospital Nursing Program before marrying Theodore Sirois at Old Orchard Beach in 1941.

They lived in Bath until 1947, then in Rumford, and moved to Farmington in 1964.

Katherine (‘Kitty’ to her friends and ‘Nanny’ to her grandchildren) was a caring homemaker all her life and served faithfully in St. John’s Catholic Church in Rumford and St. Joseph’s Parish in Farmington. She was a member of the Altar Guild and worked alongside Ted at the St. Joseph’s food booth at the Farmington Fair for several years. While she was able, she enjoyed playing Beano at the Fair and Elk’s Lodge, and joining her friends for tea, card games, and dominoes.

Ted and Kitty’s generous spirit made their home a refuge and special gathering place for all and will be missed greatly.

Katherine is survived by her children, son Len and his wife Judy of Charlottetown, PEI, Canada; son Larry and his wife Nancy of Turner, Maine; son Ted Jr. and his wife Mary of Wilton, Maine; son Robert of Farmington; and daughter Susan Mitchell and her husband David of Farmington; and a sister-in-law, Connie Palleschi, of Rumford. She also leaves 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a special, faithful friend, Helen Lambert.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ted in 1993.

The family would also like to express their gratitude for the loving care and friendship provided by the staff and residents at Sandy River, especially those in the Porter Lake section, and to Lynn Lee for keeping Kitty’s hair pretty.
