Lauristine Welch (1939-2013)

JAY – Lauristine Welch, 73, of North Jay, known as “Teenie” by her Cochran family and “Honey” by her grandchildren, died unexpectedly at her home Monday evening, Jan. 28, 2013.

She was born in Wilton, Nov. 13, 1939, a daughter of Newton and Laura (Cushman) Cochran, Sr. and attended Wilton Academy. She was employed for many years in the shoe industry, first at Norwock Shoe and later at GH Bass in Wilton.

On Dec. 20, 1956, she married Herschel Welch. Mrs. Welch was a member of the Red Hat’s and she enjoyed dancing, camping, sewing, and working on crafts and making quilts. She attended the Bean’s Corner Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Herschel of North Jay; sons, Herschel Welch, Jr. and his wife, Arlene of North Jay; Rick Welch and his wife, Jodi of Livonia, NY; Dale Welch and his wife, Mary of North Jay and an adopted son, Gary Paquette and his wife, Tammy of Sabattus; her “twin” brother, Lauriston Cochran and his companion Judy of Wilton; sister, Brenda Laflin and her husband, Donald of Monmouth; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren with another due to arrive in June.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Katherine Clements, Leona DiSotto, Cleo Pomeroy, Newt Cochran, Jr., Vivian “Bib” Welch, and Douglas Cochran, Sr.; and a grandson, Jason Welch.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High Street, Wilton. Public graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 2 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton. The family suggests that those who desire consider memorial gifts in Lauristine’s memory to the Bean’s Corner Baptist Church, 17 Chesterville Road, Jay, ME 04239 ATT: Treasurer.

  1. Gram, words cannot express the impact you have made in my life.your smile lit up any room you were in, your happiness was contagious and I’ve never seen anyone with such a positive attitude no master the circumstances.we will miss always but you will always be in our hearts.I love you.
