Loretta and her four siblings were raised by her parents Leon and Anne Belesca in Dorchester, Mass. After attending St. Gregory’s Catholic Parochial School in Dorcherster, Loretta began her career working for Palmolive as a secretary in Boston where she met and married Walter J Smith.

From there Loretta moved to Skowhegan, Maine where she raised her son JC Smith. Loretta lived on the Eaton Mountain Road for many years while working in Skowhegan as a loan officer for Federal Trust Company Bank. Loretta loved living “on the hill” as she called it; watching the deer in the field, feeding the birds, drinking fresh milk from the farm, and watching the beautiful sunrises from her window.

Loretta was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club Women’s Auxiliary where she enjoyed cooking the “spaghetti suppahs.” Later in life Loretta was blessed with a wonderful daughter-in law, Beth Shuman Smith and two beautiful granddaughters, Megan and Mackenzie Smith. How Loretta loved babysitting and spending time with her “girls.”

She didn’t know much about the game of basketball, but Loretta loved to watch both her granddaughters play for Skowhegan. Loretta was a strong woman. She had some major setbacks in life, but refused to give up and continued to beat the odds and push forward. The last setback was ovarian cancer, but she beat that too and was in full remission upon her death.

Loretta had many friends. Carol, Betty, Bonnie, Kay, Barbara, and Linda are a few whom Loretta cherished spending time with. The fun these ladies had and the stories they could tell. Thank you, ladies. Special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Oak Grove Rehabilitation and Living Center in Waterville, for making Loretta comfortable and treating her like family. She loved the popsicles. She could be gruff at times, but that was simply her fighting spirit.

At Loretta’s request there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the staff of the Jewett Wing at Oak Grove Rehabilitation and Living Center in Waterville, Maine.

Arrangements by Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhgan.
