FARMINGTON – Heaven has gained another angel as Louise G. Doak, 97, of Rangeley, passed peacefully from this world early Wednesday morning Oct. 26, 2016, at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center, following a short illness. She joins her husband and family with her Lord and Savior.

Louise was born May 19, 1919, in Rangeley, a daughter of Howard “Hall and Sadie (Pickens) Grant.

She and her five siblings lived through the “Great Depression” of the 1930’s. She graduated from Rangeley High School in 1936, continuing to live and work in the area until she married her lifelong love, Harlan E. Doak in May of 1940. Together, they raised two sons while starting a successful plumbing and heating business. They built and operated the Village Scrub Board until retirement.

She was a member of Maneskootuk Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of the Church of the Good shepherd throughout her lifetime as a member of the Church Choir and the Vestry. She was a Lay Reader, Chalice Bearer, and Assistant Treasurer at a time when few women were active in those roles. She worked in the Food Pantry and the Thrift Shop and is renowned for her “scrubbies” which have now circulated throughout much of the country. She lived with a strong faith which remains an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed by the family that she loves so very much. There is a hole in our world that we can never fill.
