SKOWHEGAN – Lucille Tillie Whittemore, 91 peacefully passed away on Dec. 3, 2014 at Redington-Fairview General Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Feb. 13, 1923 in Skowhegan, the daughter of Louis and Melina (Lessor) Charrier. She graduated from Bloomfield Academy/Skowhegan High School in 1941. On May 16, 1942, she married Carleton Whittemore, Sr. in Skowhegan. Along with her husband, Carleton, she owned and operated Whittemore’s Restaurant, which was well known throughout New England and Canada for 37 years.

Lucille was active in community and civic organizations and was an officer with Daughters of Isabella, co-founded Skowhegan-Madison Elks Auxiliary, Mother of the Year Elks, was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, parishioner of Notre Dame de Lourdes church, and a member of the Maine Restaurant Association. She enjoyed traveling, camping, golf, board and card games with family and friends, especially bridge and scrabble and spending time with family.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Carleton Whittemore, Sr. of Skowhegan; two sons, Carleton Whittemore, Jr and wife Jackie of Liverpool, New York, Darrell Whittemore and wife Judy of Skowhegan; grandson, Wade Whittemore and wife DeeDee of Auburn; great grandson, Nikolas of Auburn; two great granddaughters, Bree-Anna of Dartmouth, Mass., and Lydia of Auburn; a brother, Rodney Charrier; four sisters-in-law, Beatrice Charrier , Verletta Lowell, Ruth Tripp , and Shirley Whittemore; brother-in-law, Henry Sirois.

She was predeceased by four sisters, Ramona Sirois, Lorraine Poulin, Jeannette Jarvais, and June Ward; five brothers, Robert, Bernard, Louis, Gary, and Philip Charrier.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Redington Memorial Home for their care and kindness over the past year and a half. Also, special thanks to the staff of Redington-Fairview General Hospital for their care, comfort and support shown to our family during this difficult time.

A graveside service will be held in the Spring 2015 at the convenience of the family.
