Margaret C. Ross (1925-2012)
WILTON - Margaret (Maggie) Beryle Cameron Ross, 86, of Wilton, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2012.
She was born in Wilton on Dec. 30, 1925, the daughter of the late Peter Sr. and Vertie (Harris) Cameron. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 40 years, Joseph Ross, Sr. in August, 2007.
Maggie grew up and lived most of her life in Wilton. She graduated from the Wilton Academy in 1944. She worked for the local woolen mill and then G.H Bass for over 25 years until her retirement in 1987.
Maggie was an avid reader and, even though she needed the large print editions, still read as many as six full-length books a week until her death. She also enjoyed gardening, camping, painting, and going to lawn sales.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother she greatly appreciated her large family, hosting many years of gatherings at Christmas and Thanksgiving. Family members enjoyed her cooking, especially her biscuits and graham cracker pies which, as much as family have tried, haven't been able to be duplicated.
Margaret is survived by four sons, Joseph Ross, Jr. and his wife Carol of Wilton, Harwood Ross of Arundel, W. Kerry Ross of Livermore, and Dennis Maxwell of Wilton as well as a daughter, Melanie Maxwell York, of Perkins Township.
She also leaves behind grandsons Erik Ross, Matthew Ross, Kerry Ross and Daniel York , granddaughters Gayla Ross, Julie Mooar Tracy, Elizabeth Ross, Amanda Hastings, Krista Hastings Fournier and Katie York as well as many great-grandchildren.
Maggie was the sister of Sclastic Partridge, Richard Cameron and the late Peter Cameron, Jr. and Andrew Cameron.
There will be a graveside service at the Wilton Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 10 at 5:30 p.m. followed by a remembrance gathering for family and friends at her home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Maggie to the Wilton Free Public Library, P.O. Box 454, Wilton, ME 04294
