FARMINGTON – Marjorie E (Gamage) Bernier, 87, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1929, to Weston and Estelle Gamage in Boothbay Harbor at St. Andrews Hospital. Marge was a busy soul throughout her life, raising her children, Neil, Lisa, and Selina as a single mom. Her career included 30 plus years at Knowlton & McLeary’s Print Shop, waitressing, bartender, and a beautician for many friends and neighbors.

She was active in her community belonging to the American Legion, Emblem Club – winning awards for Flag Folding, volunteering for special Olympics, and always there to help for many events/meals. One of her fondest memories was playing Shirley Temple in a fundraising show for the Elks Lodge & Emblem Club.

She had a great sense of humor right up through the end.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Robert Bernier; three children: Neil Compton and his wife Jamie, Lisa Saunders and her husband Rick, Selina Lufkin and her husband Mike; three grandchildren: Jessica Gwaltney and her husband Erick, Adam and Austin Lufkin; and one step granddaughter Emily Greene.

She was predeceased by her six siblings: Buster, Carolyn, Elizabeth, Gaylen, Arthur, and Jean and is now having a great reunion with all of them.

A Memorial Service will be held at Adams-McFarlane Funeral & Cremation Services, 108 Court St., Farmington on Oct. 1, 2016 at 10 a.m. with Mitchell Thomas officiating followed by a graveside service with an Emblem Club Flag Folding Ceremony at Fairview Cemetery in Farmington. A reception will follow at the Farmington Elks Lodge, 2430 School St, West Farmington.

  1. So sorry; Marge was a great friend and always had a shady remark to make when chatting with her landlord Elliott. she will be sorely missed.

  3. To all of Marge’s family: So sorry to hear of Marge’s passing. I remember her many visits with my Mom. She was such a fun person to be around, and will sadly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

  6. Marge I will miss seeing you every other week to do you’re hair such a kind and funny lady all ways saying can I do anything to help?? And helping with the final comb out with her magic brush!! Also joking around with Bob. My condolences to Marge’s family.
