Mary L. Ryder (1940 – 2013)

TEMPLE – Mary L. Ryder, 73, of Temple, died Aug. 26, 2013, loosing a courageous battle with cancer. She passed with her loving family at her side.

She was the daughter of Alden “Mike” Smith and Florence (Tracy) Smith. Mary was born in Wilton on May 5, 1940. She was educated in the Wilton schools, graduating from the Wilton Academy in 1958.

After graduation she moved to southern Maine and spent five years working as a Title 1 teacher aide. She returned to the Farmington area in 1978. She was employed at G.H. Bass for six years, then started working at Property Appraisal Services for 24 years during that time she trained to be a property appraiser. She then moved on to open her own appraisal company Franklin County Appraisals retiring in 2013.

Mary spent many hours of her free time volunteering at the Farmington Ski Club. She enjoyed being a ski school instructor and member of the board of directors. Mary also enjoyed helping in her grandchildren’s classrooms. Mary could always be found helping others as a member of the American Legion and Emblem Club.

Mary is survived by her husband of 33 years Roger Ryder, daughters Melissa (Ryder) Jones and her husband Eric of Wilton, Deborah (Corson) Stebbins and her husband Randall of Gray, and son Michael Corson and his wife Rosia of Casco; her brother George Smith and his wife Bonnie; six grandchildren, Cristina and Jessica Corson, Lori and Kelley Stebbins, Andrea and Evan Jones; one great-grandson Brody Johnson, three nephews and two nieces.

She is predeceased by her parents, Mike and Florence Smith, a sister Barbara Phillips and a grandson Jason Stebbins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Adams-McFarlane Funeral & Cremation Services, 108 Court St., Farmington. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton.   1. She is(was) an amazing person, there aren’t enough words to tell her how much I love her. But she is now in a better place, she is happy, and she is building her castle on a star. Love you Grammy <3

  2. Many children were taught skiing by Mary at Titcomb Mountain, and her work there will not be forgotten. Her Scholarship fund will ensure that others will “be taught” by Mary. Our thoughts and condolences are with all of the family.

  6. The Greater Farmington Community has lost yet another one of its pillars. Mary brought grace, light, love, and forthrightness to all she did.   7. Roger, Missy and family; we are so sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. She was a great person and we were honored to know her. We remember seeing Mary and Roger at the fair in their booth selling Shaklee. Many fond memories of years gone by. Condolences and sympathy to the whole family.
