SIDNEY – May Alice (Richardson) Soucy, 77, made her way to the “Crafter’s Guild” in the sky on Aug. 28, 2015. She is probably already sharing her patterns and recipes with all of the other crafters.

She was born on May 21, 1938 in Auburn, the daughter of Bernard and Florence (Gilbert) Richardson. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1956, and continued her education at the University of Maine Augusta, graduating in 1976.

She was a veteran who proudly served her country in the U.S. Air Force 20th Air Division until her honorable discharge in 1957. On March 15, 1969, she married Clarence “Pete” Soucy in Shawmut.

She was employed as a bookkeeper for W.T. Grant, was well known as the teller at the drive through window at Depositors Trust/Key Bank in Waterville, was owner of Metro Bowl Bowling Lanes for many years, and was an account clerk for Colonial Distributors and for the State Of Maine.

May attended her high school Golden Reunion and reconnected with many of her high school friends in 2006. She was an avid crafter and cook, especially making items for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. People would specifically request her homemade pot scrubbers, whoopie pies, and applesauce.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Clarence “Pete” Soucy of Sidney; four daughters: Carol Johnston of Oklahoma, Deborah Johnston (Bob) of China, Diane Bourque (Mark) of Belgrade, and Denise Alderman (Captain Rod )of Sidney; son Derek Soucy (Misty) of Oakland; grandchildren: Justin, Nicole, Eric, Corina, Jennifer (Dickie), Benjamin (Laura), Blake, Brittany (Issac), Dale (Kacey), Braden, Wade, Mariah, Jayme, Conner, Porcha, Aaliyah, Kayden, and Gianna; and 18 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Theresa; and a brother, John.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Bourque home, 8 Dirigo Road, Belgrade, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in May’s memory to the Friends of the Belgrade Public Library, PO Box 474, Belgrade, ME 04917.
