FARMINGTON – Maynard R. Towle, 88, of Farmington, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016, at Sandy River Nursing Home in Farmington.

He was born in Pittsfield on May 28, 1928 and graduated from Farmington High School after taking a break to serve time as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy.

He married Hazel Maxine Tilton from Wilton on July 23, 1950. Maynard was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, his parents, Myrtle and Howard White, and his brother, Reginald Orville Towle.

Maynard retired from Suburban Propane, previously Farmington Oil, after a long career of delivering bottled gas and servicing propane equipment in the central Maine area. He was a Scout leader, a volunteer firefighter, a Legionnaire, a quartet singer, and an avid gardener.

He is survived by his sister, Jeanne (White) Metcalf of Livermore Falls; his son Howard Percy Towle from Temple; daughter Gerri Lee Towle (Adams) of Portland; sons: Paul White of Orrington and Fred White of Rumford , and several grandchildren.

Special thanks to the kind staff at Sandy River Nursing Home and Hospice for his care during the months before his passing.

A brief interment will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Farmington. Arrangements under the care of Adams-McFarlane Funeral & Cremation Services, 108 Court St., Farmington. Those wishing may send condolences for the family at www.adamsmcfarlane.com.

  2. Howard, my sincere condolences to you. Maynard was, what my Dad called, “A Good Egg”. He had a strong character and great sense of humor with a gentle heart. The County will miss him weather they know it or not. Rest in Peace, Maynard.
