Michael C. Callahan (1955-2011)

RANGELEY – Michael C. Callahan, 55, of Rangeley and Carlisle, Mass., died unexpectedly at his home in Rangeley on Sunday afternoon, May 8, 2011.

He was born in Dallas, Texas on Oct. 1, 1955, a son of Roy and Monita (Chaney) Callahan. He received his education from Amherst College and the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. On Sept. 6, 1980, he married Joanie Chestnut in Seal Harbor, Maine.

Mr. Callahan worked in the real estate investment business. His wife and family were the most important things in his life. Michael was a fun-loving and active father, having coached his kids’ teams for 25 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, and hiking with his dogs. His life was filled with music and laughter and he touched all those around him with his zest for life.

He is survived by his wife, Joanie of Carlisle, Mass. and Rangeley; his children, Emily, Tara, Conor, and Molly; his sister, Missy and her husband Doug and their children, Kiran and Tynan; and his brother, Roy Callahan and his wife, Sharon and their children, Sean, Mikey, and Katie.

Public Memorial services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Rangeley Congregational Church. Interment will be in his beloved Rangeley at Evergreen Cemetery.
