FARMINGTON – Nelda K. Doak, 90, died Jan. 19, 2011 at The Pierce House in Farmington.

She was born February 19, 1920 at Salem, the daughter of Richard D. And Nellie Jones Keep. She attended a two-room schoolhouse in Salem as a young girl and moved to Rangeley where she graduated from Rangeley High School. Nelda was employed for many years by G.H. Bass & Co. as a sales correspondent. She was also a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Wilton.

Nelda belonged to the Wilton Historical Society, Colonial Daughters DAR, National Keep Society, was a life member and past president of Mt. Blue Garden Club and was a member of The Red Hat Society. She was also a for member of Wilton Chapter OES, Wilton Senior Citizens, Wilton Extension, Town of Wilton Republican Committee (Ballot Clerk and member), as well as Wilton, FHM Auxiliary and Monday Club.

She enjoyed extensive traveling (here and abroad), painting, gardening, watching and feeding wild birds, sewing, knitting, and swimming at the UMF Fitness Center. For several years after retirement she had visits with her grandchildren. Nelda will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving, generous person. She became a resident of Pierce House in 2008.

She is survived by a brother, Philip R. Keep of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; a sister, Eleanor K Heilman of Boulder, CO; two grandchildren: John R. Doak and wife Gwendolyn of Wilton and Stephanie A. Doak of Houston, TX; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Timothy, a sister Mabel, a brother Floyd, two nephews, one niece, two sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and former husband Merrill Doak.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Nelda’s memory to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church or Wilton Free Public Library.

A time of sharing and celebrating Nelda’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at the St. Luke Episcopal Church in Wilton. A spring burial will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements under the care and direction of Dan and Scott’s Cremation and Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan, Maine.
