Olive M. Turner (1928-2016)

RANGELEY – Olive M. Turner, 88, passed away on Sept. 23, 2016, at the Pinnacle Health and Rehabilitation Facility in Canton where she has resided for the past four years.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1928 in Berlin, N.H., the daughter of Colin and Dorothy (Lorry) Prescott. She was educated in the schools of Berlin, N.H. and graduated from high school in the class of 1946. In 1947, she married James Turner in Berlin, N.H., and he predeceased her on Feb. 2, 2012.

Olive was employed at Ware Knitters in Berlin, N.H. and later on, drove her own school bus for nine years. In 1962, she moved to Rangeley where she worked at the First National Store and then later on at Roger’s Market in Oquossoc.

In 1968, Olive purchased the Corner Store, which she operated until her retirement in 1988. For many summers following, she assisted her husband Jim in managing the Stephen Phillips Memorial Preserve Camping Area on Mooselookmeguntic Lake in Oquossoc.

She was a member of the Rangeley Congregational Church and the Masonettes of Rangeley. Olive enjoyed crafts, knitting, crocheting, stained glass and pottery.

She is survived by her daughters: Katherine Johnson of Westbrook, Janet House of Rangeley; her brothers: C. Jack Prescott of Rochester, N.H., Walter Prescott of West Milan, N.H., her sister, Jennie Call of Berlin, N.H.; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, James Turner; her son, Sidney James Turner; and her sister, Pauline Abbott.

Donations in Olive’s memory may be sent to the Rangeley Congregational Church, PO Box 218, Rangeley, ME 04970. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at the Wentworth Location Cemetery in New Hampshire.

  1. Olive and Jim were so wonderful to us when they ran the Stephen Phillips memorial Preserve. We have wonderful memories from that magic place. John and I are so sorry for your loss.
