Pauline M. Oakes (1944 – 2013)

AUBURN – Pauline M. Oakes, 69, of Industry, died Wednesday evening at the Hospice House, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Jan. 10, 1944, in Avon, the daughter of Walter and Bessie Cushman. She received her education in Farmington schools. On April 7, 1973, she married Greg Oakes in Rangeley.

In addition to being a homemaker, she also worked outside of the home at Fosters, Wilton Tannery, both G. H. Bass and Franklin Shoe and was a CAN and CRMA at Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center. She was also an Avon Representative.

She was a former member of the Farmington Emblem Club and was a member of both the Chesterville and North Jay Granges. Pauline was instrumental in organizing the Industry Food Bank and was always willing to help others in need.

Her hobbies included reading, quilting and gardening. Her favorite times were spent in the company of family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Greg of Industry; three children: John Ross and his wife, Teresa of Valley, Alabama; Robert Ross and his wife, Trudy of Jay and Bonnie Allen and her companion Kermit Clements, Jr. of Wilton; and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Ross of Chesterville; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by a best friend, Brenda Bickford of Industry.

Pauline was predeceased by her folks; two sons: Travis Oakes in 2007 and Dale Ross in 1999 and two brothers: Winston Cushman and Raymond Cushman.

Private family services. In appreciation for the quality care received at the Hospice House, remembrance gifts may be given in her memory to the Hospice House 236 Stetson Road Auburn, Maine 04210.   4. To the family of Pauline Oakes: My deepest and heartfelt sorrow for all of you at the loss of your wife, mom, grandmother, aunt and friend. I knew pauline for quite some time during the 1980’s and 90’s. I haven’t seen her for a while, but have kept in touch with some of her family. She was an amazing and strong women and how she loved her family. I will keep you all in my prayers.

  12. We were so sorry to read of the loss of Aunt Pauline. She was a wonderful lady that we have many good memories of. I know that she and Dad are up in Heaven catching up. Rest in peace, Aunt Pauline.

  15. Gram, you were everything to me. I miss you more than words can say. You were and will always be the strongest person I know. As sad as I am that you are not here with me I am even more happy that you are finally at peace and no longer suffering. I love you with all of my heart and you will always remain in it. Im broken and feel empty without you but I know you are watching over me telling me to stop crying. Rest in peace gram love you always.
