Quentin R. Smith (1935-2015)

SOUTH PARIS – Quentin R. Smith, 80, of Farmington, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Market Square Health Care Center in South Paris.

Quentin was born in South Carthage on Feb. 8, 1935, the son of Robert and Myrtle (Phombs) Smith. He attended Carthage and Dixfield schools, graduating from Dixfield High School in 1952.

He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served as a linesman. He was wounded by gunshot during the taking of Pork Chop Hill, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. After his tour of duty in the Army, Quentin served in the US Air Force.

For several years, Mr. Smith worked as a night watchman at the Farmington Shoe Shop. In later years, he took a small engine repair class and a computer repair class and enjoyed building and working on computers for friends and family. He lived in Farmington since 1963 and was never married.

He is predeceased by a sister, Lita Broomhall. Quentin leaves behind a sister, Sadie Williams of Mexico; many nieces, nephews and friends.

A service will be held at a later date at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements are in the care of the Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 45 Main Street, South Paris. Condolences can be expressed to the family by visiting www.chandlerfunerals.com.
