FARMINGTON – Richard A. Ferrari, 94, of Farmington, died late Tuesday evening at the Sandy River Center in Farmington.

He was born in Farmington, Nov. 13, 1924, a son of Adelmo and Lucy (Pirani) Ferrari and attended Farmington schools.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a Bugler during World War II. After the war, he worked with his family at the family clothing store, “The Red Store” and later remodeled it with his brothers, Norman and David, and named it Ferrari Brother’s Clothing Store, where he worked until his retirement in 1980. He worked part-time at Hannaford Brother’s in Jay for 10 years following his retirement.

Mr. Ferrari was a long-time member of Roderick Crosby American Legion Post and the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 of Jay. He was a former director of North East Bank for 15 years, President of the Farmington Ski Club in 1965, Commander of the Legion in 1954, and a Cub Scout leader for many years. He enjoyed bowling and fishing in his younger years.

He is survived by his children, Karen Black and her husband, Roger of Danforth; Steven of Southwick, MA, Scott and his wife, Lynne of Farmington, Andrea and her husband, Tom McLaughlin of Strong, and Diane and her husband, Todd Hodge of Cocoa, FL; brothers, Norman and David, both of Farmington; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jessica, Angela, Dr. Anthony, Andrew, Riley, Morgan, and Chase; great grandchildren, Payton, Colby, Caleb, and Olivia.

He was predeceased by his wife Wilma Albert; and a grandson, Luke.

Public graveside memorial services with US Army Honors, with his son, Steven, as Bugler, will be held on Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Farmington with Father Paul Dumais, officiating. The family suggests that those who desire, consider memorial gifts in his memory to the Roderick Crosby American Legion Post, PO Box 648, Farmington, ME 04938.

Cremation care and memorial services are being provided by the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington.

  2. My condolences to the entire Ferrari family. Such a nice man. I remember as a kid, going into the Red Store and seeing the 3 brothers. May warm and loving memories help you through this difficult time.

  3. Mr. Ferrari was a great friend of my Dad’s. I have so many fond memories of him and his family from the summers we all spent at Porter Lake. I am sorry for your loss, but grateful for the times we spent together.
