SIDNEY – Richard Joseph Jacques, 84, passed away on July 27, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed at his home in Sidney, surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 12, 1930 in Waterville, the son of Joseph Arthur and Noella (Hallee) Jacques.

He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a corporal from 1951 to 1953 until he was honorably discharged. On Sept. 1, 1951, he married Germaine Michaud at Notre Dame Church in Waterville. He was employed for many years at Hollingsworth & Whitney Paper Mill, Bill’s Oil Company, and as a postal clerk in the Augusta and Waterville post offices, where he retired.

Following his retirement he and his wife Germaine built a home on the family farm land in Sidney where he spent his days enjoying and maintaining the farmland.

Richard was a member of St. Francis and Notre Dame Church in Waterville. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, often seen with his brother-in-law, Fern Michaud. Richard enjoyed the farm life, and watching the field for wildlife at his home in Sidney.

Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Germaine (Michaud) Jacques of Sidney; six sons: Stewart Jacques and wife Elaine of Sidney, Daniel Jacques of Waterville, David Jacques and wife Patricia of Sidney, Mark Jacques and wife Deborah of Fairfield, Raymond Jacques and partner Karren Aberle of Waterville, Patrick Jacques and wife Lisa of Sidney; daughter, Paula Denis and partner Mike Kneeland of Clinton; grandchildren, Sarah of Keene, New Hampshire, Danielle and Jessie of Waterville, Megan of Clinton, Alex of Fairfield, Eric and Kacie of Waterville, Matthew of Lincoln and wife Michelle, Ryan of Sidney and significant other Ashley, Nicholas of Sidney; great grandchildren, Cayden of Sidney, and Amelia of Lincoln; brother Florian Jacques and wife Nancy, sister, Lorraine Cook; sister in-law Jeanne Jacques; brother-in-law, Fern Michaud; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Fernand Jacques and brother-in-law, Harold Cook.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the homecare angels, and to Dr. Hart and the caring nurses at the Harold Alfond Cancer Center.

At Richard’s request there will be no funeral or visitation hours.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in Richard’s memory to a charity of your choice.
