Robert Dean Lewis (1932 – 2014)

FARMINGTON – Robert Dean Lewis, 81, passed away on August 8, 2014 at Sandy River Center in Farmington.

He was born on October 9, 1932 in Gastonia, North Carolina, the son of James and Texie (Connor) Lewis.

He was educated in the Gastonia school system going on to North Carolina State College and graduating in 1955 with a BS in Wildlife Biology. He served his country in the US Army, entering the service in 1956 and was stationed at the Army Chemical Center in Edgewood, MD. During that time he met and married his wife of 56 years, Lillian Sides Lewis. After his service in the Army ended in 1958, he returned to North Carolina State University and received his Masters Degree in Wildlife Biology.

In 1963, he moved to Maine to work at the Lab at Boothbay Harbor for 10 years and then for the Maine Dept. Of Marine Resources until his retirement in 1994. Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, puttering in his workshop, clam digging at Reed State Park, and vacationing at Peaks Island.

He is survived by; his wife, Lillian of Livermore; his four children, Ellen Bonney and husband Stephen of Strong, Deborah Richards of Jay, Robert Lewis Jr. And wife Jean of St. Leonards, MD, Eugenie Lewis Morris and husband Jeffrey of Mansfield, MA; his seven grandchildren, Amanda Mercier Tjhonen of Walpole, MA, Nicole Poliquin of Cape Neddick, Miranda Thompson of Buxton, Gillian Morris of Boston, MA, Michael Bonney of Portland, Samantha Lewis of St. Leonards, MD, Sarah Baumgardner of Worner, GA; six great grandchildren.

Donations may be made in Robert’s memory to the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, 15 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04243.

Services will held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 488, Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington, ME 04938.
