PHILLIPS – Robert Oliver Thorndike, 84, passed away on Dec. 7, 2018, at the Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta, with his family by his side.

He was born on Aug. 27, 1934 in Camden, the son of Thornton and Sadie (Campbell) Thorndike.

Bob served his country in the U.S. Army from April of 1957 to April of 1959.

On Dec. 8, 1956, Bob married Beverly Anderson in West Haven, Connecticut and she predeceased him on April 20, 1991.

On Nov. 16, 1996, Bob married Marjorie Adele Heath in Phillips. He was a member of the Phillips Congregational Church.

Bob worked as a carpenter and a school bus driver. He had a passion for farming; raising animals – especially his horses, growing tomatoes and peppers in his greenhouse, bush-hogging and mowing. Bob enjoyed crafting wooden toys and telling jokes. Bob had a deep love for his family.

Bob is survived by his wife Adele Thorndike of Phillips; sons, Robert A. Thorndike and wife Karen of Phillips, Barry Thorndike and wife Jane of Phillips/Avon, Bruce Thorndike and wife Leslie of Farmington, Brian Thorndike of Avon; daughter, Brenda Thorndike Voter and husband Verne of Avon; seventeen grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; step-son, Robert Heath and wife Carie of Brownfield; step-daughter, Kaye Newell and husband Walter of Kingfield; four step-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ann Gordon of Farmington, Shirley Barker of Livermore Falls, Christine Mitchell of Farmington, and Penny Morrell of Limington.

He was predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Gladys Comstock, Victor Thorndike, Richard Thorndike, James Thorndike, and Martha McDonald.

Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Phillips Congregational Church, 4 Sawyer St., in Phillips. Light refreshments will be served. Interment with military honors will be held at the Mile Square Cemetery in Avon in the spring of 2019. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington, ME 04938.

    him, As Patty’s father will be laid to rest today.
