Robert Wayne Allen (1948-2010)

RANGELEY - Robert Wayne Allen, "Bob," 62, of Rangeley Plantation, died unexpectedly of natural causes in the early evening hours of Monday Dec. 27, 2010, while on his plowing route in Rangeley.

He was born June 8, 1948, in St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Fred E. and Constance (Crosby) Allen. He was a 1966 graduate of Mexico High School and in November of 1968 was drafted in the Army during the Vietnam War.

On Oct. 20, 1973, he married Jill Braley in Mexico. They moved to the Rangeley area in July of 1987, where they owned and operated the Gingerbread House for 10 years. He currently was self-employed and owned his own business, Allen's Caretaking Service.

Bob enjoyed both working and playing in the great outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and snowmobiler.

He was a past commander of the VFW: Rumford Post, and was a member of the American Legion Post 120, Rangeley. He was president of the East Richardson Rod and Gun Club; a member of the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club and a director of the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsman Club, having cooked for the Annual Steak and Salmon Dinner for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Jill, of Rangeley Plantation; a son Greg L. Allen and his wife, Christine Garceau Allen of Billerica, Mass; a grandson Jack Allen, also of Billerica, MA.; his parents, Fred and Constance Allen of Dennysville; two sisters: Cathy Wright and her husband, Dick of Wayland, MA.; and Pam Allen and her companion Jim Randall of Calais; a brother, Fred Allen and his wife, Barb of Mexico; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Public memorial services will be held Sunday afternoon, Jan. 2, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the Rangeley Congregational Church, with Rev. Bill Carter officiating. Following services, all are welcome to attend a family reception at The Barn, hosted by the Women's Fellowship. Remembrance gifts may be given to the Rangeley Congregational Church 2 High St. Rangeley, Me. 04970.
