NORRIDGEWOCK – Roberta J. Heald, 59, passed away on Jan. 7, 2015, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. After being surrounded by her loving family for days, she passed away with her husband of 36 years, Ronald Heald, by her side.

She was born in Waterville on Nov. 30, 1955, grew up in Norridgewock and was the eldest daughter of Laura and the late Robert Brown.

As a young woman, Roberta became a licensed cosmetologist and spent several years as an instructor at the Central Maine Beauty School in Augusta. She then opened and successfully ran her own hair salon for 25 years. At 40 years old, she went back to college and graduated in 2003 with a master’s degree in social work, which was one of her proudest accomplishments.

She was employed by Maine General/HealthReach Hospice as a social worker, where she provided counseling services to Hospice patients and their families. In 2010, Maine General Health honored her with the Kim Landry Award for Outstanding Service.

She is survived by her husband, Ron Heald of Norridgewock; daughter, Cathy Buzzell and husband Kevin of Madison; her beloved grandson, Tyler Buzzell, who was the light of her life; her mother, Laura Brown and husband Richard of Norridgewock; sister, Bonnie Bickford and husband Sherwood of Smithfield; brother, Bruce and wife Harriet of Waterville; two special nieces, Lorri Brown of Farmington and Jean Harrington of Skowhegan; two special nephews, Ryan Brown of Boston, Mass., and Matthew Bickford of Smithfield.

Roberta was predeceased by her father, Robert; brothers, Robert Jr., and Steven; and her granddaughter, Leah.

Roberta and her family would like to thank all those who assisted them over the past several years, including Dr. Richard Polkinghorn, her oncologist, and the staff of the oncology unit at Redington-Fairview General Hospital. The family especially thanks her colleagues and friends at Maine General Hospice who provided invaluable assistance and support as her Hospice team and as her friends.

At Roberta’s request, there will be no visitation hours or funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at her home at 40 Tempesta Way, Norridgewock on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at 1 p.m.
