FARMINGTON – Roxie Louise Moody Black, 82, of Farmington, died on Saturday morning, March 28, 2015,  at her home with her children by her side.

She was born on Oct. 24, 1932 in Anson, a daughter of Floyd and Viola Effie Beane Moody. Her mother’s second husband, Ralph Thurlow was a major influence in her life. She received her education in North New Portland schools and graduated from Farmington High School.

She was employed at Farmington Shoe and later at GH Bass before she went to further her education as a master lab tech at KMVTI in the late 1960s. She was a supervisor in the lab at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington from 1970-1986.

On Nov. 1, 1952, she married Charles Edward Black in Farmington. He died on Nov. 10, 1998.

Mrs. Black was known for her love of animals, especially her Yorkie dogs; writing poetry and short stories, oil and pastel painting, and flower gardening and arranging. She was devoted to her family having taken care of her mother at home following a stroke for 13 years, as well as providing hospice care for her husband, and caring for several aunts and uncles over the years.

She is survived by her children, Kevin W. Black and his partner, Karen Shovelton of Wilton; Pamela D. Rackliffe and her partner, Geoffrey Crockett of Farmington; Vicki L. Haggan and her partner, Michael Haggan of Farmington; Gary W. Black and his partner, Pamela Heath of Dixfield; and Kyle B. Black and his partner, Lisa Olson of North Adams, Mass.; 14 grandchildren: Jeremy, Kim, Travis, Toby, Jonathan, Shane, Matthew, Joshua, Jen, Matt, Adam, Ashley, Aubrey, and Missy; 23 great grandchildren; and her beloved yorkies, Oscar and McDuff.

She was predeceased by her parents; step father; sister, Feralyn Smith; and her husband.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Center Thursday at 11 a.m. followed by a reception at the Center. Winter entombment is at the funeral home with interment later in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton. The family suggests that those who desire consider memorial gifts in Roxie’s Memory to the Franklin County Animal Shelter, 550 Industry Road, Farmington, ME 04938.

  3. Roxie taught me so much about life. She loved her family so much and was so dedicated to all of them. I worked with Roxie for many wonderful years. She was so proud of the lab and the work she did. Such a caring and inspiring woman. I will miss that laugh Roxie!!!!
    She is at peace now with those she loved so much.

  5. Roxie loved many, and was in turn, loved by many. She always shared of herself and helped others. I and those her knew her from her visits to Edgewood, will miss her deeply….
