FARMINGTON – Ruth E. Poland, 93, formerly of North Jay, died early Monday morning, June 29, 2015,  at the Sandy River Center for Healthcare.

She was born on Dec. 9, 1921, in Lewiston, a daughter of George and Edith (Rand) Nottage and graduated from Farmington High School in 1939. On June 19, 1940, she married Francis H. Ellingwood. He died Dec. 3, 1944.

She moved to North Jay and on Sept. 6, 1946, married Theron Poland. He died July 26, 1986. Mrs. Poland was employed for many years in the hot lunch program in the Jay school system. She also was employed at the North Jay Grange Store and G.H. Bass Shoe Co.

Mrs. Poland enjoyed camping and was a former member of the NAFCA, Pine Tree Chapter and the Good-Sam-Pine Tree Gypsies. She was a former member of the Jay Fireman’s Auxiliary and was a member of Woodbine Temple 47. She attended Bartlett Memorial United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling on bus tours, working on embroidery projects and crossword puzzles, going to church suppers, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Dubord and her husband, Maurice of Farmington and Marilyn Buck of Sabattus; a son, Rodney Ellingwood and his wife, Margie of Wilton; brother, William Bryant of Farmington; sister-in-law, Laurel Lee of Turner; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and two nieces.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 4 at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High Street, Wilton with Rhonda Wiles-Rosell as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to call one hour prior to the services. The family suggests that those who desire consider memorial gifts to the Wilton Area Food Pantry, PO Box 517, Wilton, ME 04294. Interment will be at Birchland Cemetery in North Jay.
