Shirley E. Wentworth, 73, of Oakland, passed peacefully at her granddaughter’s home with family by her side on June 24, 2016.

She was born on June 28, 1942, the daughter of Charles and Ethel York.

She grew up in Winslow and attended schools in the Winslow school district. In 1962, she married her husband of 56 years, Chester Wentworth. She worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide and Medical Technician. She also worked as a nutritional supplement aide at Oak Grove Nursing Home for many years until she retired.

Shirley was a candy fanatic. She enjoyed having visitors over to talk and share with. She loved reading western and romance novels. She was a very spiritual woman who loved the Lord, the bible and gospel music.

Shopping played a huge role in Shirley’s life. It didn’t matter if she shopped online or in stores. She would always rave about the new clothes she bought. Home Shopping Network and QVC were her favorite shows to watch. It didn’t matter if it was day or night. She was always calling to order something.

Camping at Lobster Buoy Campground with family, closest friends and dogs Lilly and Pretty every summer was a must. Many cherished memories were made there from crab hunting with the grandkids to nightly visits to the day room for homemade pie, ice cream and coffee. She also enjoyed taking shopping trips into town and visiting the breakwater light house.

Talking on the telephone was also something she loved. She would keep you on the phone all day if she could. She was very social and loved to talk. Shirley was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Chester Wentworth; daughter Terry Booker (Jeff); son, Jeff Wentworth; sister, Linda Roderick (Charlie); brother, Charles York (Fran); 4 granddaughters, Danielle Wentworth (Ken); Jessica Richards (Rob), Felisha Booker, Paige Wentworth; 2 grandson, Jeff Wentworth II (Jessica), Jacob Wentworth; great grandchildren, Rhylee, Elijah, Ezra, Hannah, Zeke, Liam, Zachary, and Landen. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sherry and parents, Charles and Ethel York.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
