AUBURN — Shirley W. Libby, 81, of Jay, said goodbye to her loving family on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Clover Manor in Auburn.

Shirley was born November 9, 1934, a daughter of A. Matthew and Beulah A. (Shirley) White. She attended Old Town High School and married her high school sweetheart, Roger F. Libby on September 28, 1951. In 1959, they moved to Jay where they raised their children, Gregory, Gail, and Debbie.

For twenty years, Shirley and Roger owned and operated a Sears Catalog Franchise in Livermore Falls. Shirley later worked at the University of Southern Maine in the senior companion program where she took great care in assisting senior citizens in their day to day activities.

Shirley, known to her grandchildren as “gram” was known for her competitive spirit and enjoyed playing games with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed card games, cribbage, dominos, and loved taking trips to the casinos with her sisters. She was a practical woman who rarely flustered and had a welcoming, open home to all. Shirley will be remembered as a kind and loving mother and Gram, the true matriarch of her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gregory Libby of Jay, Gail Cailler and her husband Dan of Lewiston, and Debbie Lecznar and her fiancée Bob Ham of Turner; a very special niece, Kelly Millett and her husband Scott of Wales; sisters, Betty Hotham and her husband Charles of Old Town, Nancy Leavitt of Old Town, and Cynthia Davis and her husband John of Old Town; grandchildren, Jason Soucy and his wife Trish, Leigh Roberts, Corey Roberts and his companion Jessica Collins, Shaun Rugar and his wife, Michala, Kurt Libby and his wife, Micheala, Lisa Smith and her husband Zach, Jon Lecznar and his companion Jane D’Addario, and Kevin Libby and his wife Ashley; great grandchildren, Kim, Britt, Joardin, Aria, Donald, Leo, Hanna, Nolan, Judson, Asher, and Lilly; and special great nieces, Livanah, Magnolia, and Delaney.

She was predeceased by her husband, Roger, and a niece, Katherine LaBrecque. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Clover Manor for their loving care as well as Beacon Hospice for their care and support, especially Jamie.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, May 27, from 4pm to 7pm at Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Rd., Jay, ME 04239. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00AMat the Center with burial to follow at Jay Hill Cemetery, Rt. 4 in Jay.
