JAY — Susan N. Knockwood, 66, of Jay, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015.

Sue was born on April 28, 1948, a daughter of Arris and Eleanor (Trask) Nadeau. She attended local schools, graduating from Wilton Academy in 1966. After high school, Sue went on and earned her license as a certified nursing assistant, and worked for local nursing homes.

She married the love of her life, Harold Knockwood on Oct. 6, 1974. Sue also worked at Forster Manufacturing and later at G.H. Bass Shoe, where she retired in 1997.

Sue or more commonly known as “Auntie Sue” was a talented seamstress who enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She crafted countless baby blankets, quilts and afghans for family members and friends, always keeping busy with multiple projects. Sue enjoyed reading and camping, particularly at Spencer Stream with her husband.

Sue was a prankster with an incredible sense of humor; a true joy to be around. Above all, she was an extremely generous woman, always concerned and giving everything she could to others. As the rock of her family, Sue’s heart was immense; she led a joyous life with her husband who loved her to no end.

Sue is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Harold Knockwood of Jay; a daughter, Kelly Marshall of Oregon and her significant other; a son, Steven J. Knockwood of Jay; siblings: Jeff Nadeau and his wife, Paula of Jay; Kim Downs and her husband, Dicky of Winn; and David Nadeau and his wife, Kevin of North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Sandra Nadeau; special family members: her Aunt Bet and sister-in-law Evangeline Rayl; many nieces and nephews and countless extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Mark Nadeau. Tributes and condolences may be shared by visiting www.wilesrc.com.

Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, Feb. 26, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High St., Wilton, ME 04294. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Center with Rev. Laura Church of the Wilton United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, remembrance gifts in Susan’s name may be made to the Wilton Food Pantry, PO Box 517, Wilton, ME 04294.

  1. Susan was my classmate and she and I had some great high school years together. Good bye my friend.

  2. Wilton Academy Class of 1966 lost another classmate way to soon. Sue was always enjoying life and she could make you smile. She has left us to go to a place where she met up with one of our dear friends Janice. I am sure they will have stories to tell us when we arrive there. Sending prayers to Sue’s family and my she rest in peace.
