Verna Betts (1921 – 2011)

RANGELEY – Verna Betts, 89, of Rangeley passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 at her home.

She was born on Nov. 9, 1921 in Medford, NJ, the daughter of Clemens J. and Susan V. (Maxwell) Baessler. Verna was a graduate of Rancocas Valley High School in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. As a young lady she worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone. She then went to work in Dr. R. Winfield Betts’ office. They married years later. Upon Winfield’s move to a hospital Emergency Department practice in 1964, Verna cared for their children. She enjoyed going for walks in the woods, bird watching, reading, and spending time with her family.

Verna is survived by her daughter Margaret “Peggy” Betts of Rangeley; her son Watson Kirk Betts of Rangeley; her brother Richard Baessler and his wife Josie of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Garland Ledbetter, her husband Richard Winfield Betts, three brothers Frank, Paul, and Fred, and a sister Mary.

There will be no services at this time. Those wishing may make donations in Verna’s memory to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements under the care of Adams~McFarlane Funeral & Cremation Services, 108 Court St., Farmington.
