Letter to the Editor: Andy Buckland an energetic leader

2 mins read

When I first heard from Rep. Lance Harvell that he would not be running for office I was shocked. But Lance said wait until you have met the person I have asked to run in my place. I have since had numerous chances to meet and talk with Andy Buckland. He is a thoughtful energetic leader in his community. From his service on the selectman’s board to his passion for teaching music to students I have found him to be an inspiration.

At a recent event I also was thrilled to meet his family it is easy to see why Andy is so full of cheer his wife Anne, a local nurse at Franklin Memorial Hospital was especially delightful in conversation. I was also blown away when I was introduced to his children and the array of talent they have. Being a parent myself I know that children of these high standards are not grown but raised.

In conversations over the summer I have come to understand what Lance meant and why Andy is a leader in his community. He understands that the state must live within its means, that welfare is a compact between helping those in need but expecting effort in return. He understands that while people frequently use the word free ultimately all spending is paid for by taxpayers.

It is with these meetings in mind that I enthusiastically look forward to working Andy Buckland.

  1. It’s a shame Andy is a Republican. As the parent of 2 girls, one of which is gay,I can not in good conscious vote for him. When his party drops the social agenda, I will be happy to vote for such a candidate. I have never understood how one party can be for less gov’t and regulation, but want to tell woman how to manage their reproductive rights and choices.

  2. Me, I cannot understand how a party can be against the death penalty but support abortion in all forms. Are you claiming a war against women? This is such a lame story now, given how women have been treated by such powerful Democrats as former President Bill Clinton or how they are paid less than their male counter parts in the Obama white house. I am Republican and support Gay rights, don’t really think about abortion. That is the difference, in the Republican party you can have diverging views, which the media calls “cracks in party unity” when Democrats must walk in lock step or be shunned!

I am voting for Andy Buckland!

  3. AMEN to that, Cisco. You said all that needs saying. I, too, will vote for Andy Buckland. He is a family oriented man, with a very talented family including himself as a musician. Andy is caring, thoughtful,
considers all information before coming to a conclusion and a clear thinker. We need more of those
in Augusta, not lawyers. Andy has the integrity and vision to see both sides of the coin. I would
urge the voters of New Sharon and Farmington to vote for Andy.
