Letter to the Editor: Attend today’s climate rally

1 min read

I’d like to draw attention to the climate rally planned for Friday, Sept. 20 at noon in Meetinghouse Park.

Organized by students, the rally joins others around the world seeking to focus attention on the climate crisis and the dire outlook for the future livability of the world they are inheriting.

This is an opportunity to express your support for their efforts and offer some assurance that the older generation is willing to fight for the future along with them!

  1. Why don’t they take their time and go to the Leap explosion site and the park across the road and donate it towards the clean up effort. Instead they would rather disrupt town, traffic and businesses instead of really doing something constructive and helpful. Most people I have talked to were more annoyed by todays event than impressed.

  2. Actualy West west Farmingtonite, both causes are important. Our climate is changing and we are the cause. There’s no doubt. So this is constructive and helpful. We need to get everyone working toward the goal of saving the planet from permanent, irreversible damage.

  3. “The town has begun seeing to the clean up of Bjorn Park and the traffic triangle near the Farmington Falls Road scene. Ted Berry Company is utilizing vacuum trucks to remove the insulation that was scattered in a wide area around the building after it exploded.” (Bulldog article – 9/20/19)

Perhaps the insulation contains fiberglass or other material that might be harmful. I hope the LEAP personnel that are going to the site to retrieve papers, etc., is mindful of the possible hazards.

I fully support the rallies held everywhere to address climate change.

  4. Climate Crisis?….Keep drinking the Liberal Kool Aid …Hey remember we were all supposed to be gone by now.. at least that is what Al Gore said at 20,000 feet in his private jet. Portland under water in 15 years …right and Farmington will have to learn Congolese in 5. Grow up you Sissy men and learn a trade for the betterment of future generations. Who is going to repair your electric car if you cannot get it started ?
If the Walmart Trucks don’t deliver for a few weeks how are you going to survive if you have not learned how to grow a garden or fish ? We are creating a entire generation of Sissies who do nothing but watch ABC-NBC-CBS-CNN and FOX/ and believe they are hearing the truth….Move along sheep and learn some common sense, critical thinking and reason. And please do not tell me ‘Scientist Agree’..Scientist have not agreed on anything since Sir Isaac Newton felt the apple hit him in the head.

  5. The only crisis with no real data to support it. Look up “University of East Anglia scandal”. They still use altered data to push their agenda. The earth is 10x healthier now than 50 to 100 years ago, and all that needs doing is for China & India to get with the program.

Loved the pix of the trash all over the ground in many locations they held these, as always, just like Earth Day. But we’re told the ‘crisis’ is IRREVERSIBLE NOW ANYWAY, we’re dead in 10 yrs, so what’s the point?

Hang on while I take my private jet to give a speech urging the little people to lower their living standards while I buy up ocean-front property for my mansions. “Some people are going to have to give up a piece of their pie….” – yes, while the elites live the extravagant high life, sacrificing NOTHING, and us peasants freeze.

So goes the road to serfdom.

  6. Here are some other dire predictions made by ‘scientific consensus’ over the years. This is starting to look more like a religion than science, to be honest! The world’s greatest fraud…and people have been groomed to be naive enough to buy into it.

  7. I have to politely dissagree with Nick. The climate change issue is all about politics. Why were all the scientists silenced when the tried to present the data pertaining to the real reason behind climate change? How many of these people have done, really done their homework on this issue. Have they even looked at the magnetic images of the globe or the tracking of Earth’s magnetic north,or the magnetic imagines of our sun from the orbiting solar observatory (SOHO),or the changes in solar output,or historic records evidenced in Earth’s geoligcal record as eveienced in rock formations?? In the meantime AL Gore is jet setting around the world in his billion dollar pollution spewing jet spouting unsubstanciated facts to sell us on a carbon tax that would destroy our economy ? Hear the words of the late presedent Kennedy “There is a secret government within our government”. Good lord look what they have done to Europe in the name of progressiveness and climate change politics. If you value your freedom, life, liberty, and the prusiut of happiness know America is under attack from the inside out. Traditional family values ,under attack. Just this last week colorado voted to allow 11 year old girls to go topless in stage shows for older men. How far will t his evil adgenda go? Do your research and DO NOT rely on main stream media. I have worked in the intelligence community and subliminal cuts and high teck mind control was developed back in the “60’s. Imagine how far it has gotten out of control by now whith a handful of elete narcositst meglomainaciks who are in cohsersion and control it all to bring us to our knees and rule the world. The writing is on the wall people,it is happening just as fortold in Revlations. If you value freedom and family you should look much deeper into this issue. It will be interisting to see if the Bulldog publishes this. Who are you gonna serve?

  8. @overregulated

That “information” you just copied and pasted comes from a 9/11 conspiracist and Breitbart author named John Nolte. You should always cite your sources, even when it’s someone so stunningly stupid.

  9. Using the kids to foster a bogus political opinion in regard “climate” is a product of the national and state teachers unions. Why not have a protest on a weekend? Not enough will show up, but get a day off and a three day weekend and it’s another story. Beware the political clowns and teachers that are using your kids and school tax money to foster the liberal climate change hysteria. Liberalism is deasase that spreads through the schools and those indoctrinating our kids.

  10. Climate change is real. I support those gathering to demand action. Systemic problems require systemic solutions.

Monday’s tragedy is a deep hurt. Help when you can. We’re all connected.

We can walk and chew gum at the same time. (We can demand action on climate change *and* support community members.)

  11. Marie E, The authorities were asking for volunteers to help with the clean up. But that type of work is not worthy of skipping school and work for I guess.

  12. Omar, No matter who broughtt our attention to it first if it is the truth your are not going to cahage anything by branding it as a conspiracy theory.

  13. OMAR – I was THERE AND REMEMBER most of those being huge news topics!! WOW! How old are you?

There’s a sucker born every minute. This is nothing more than indoctrination and inciting mass hysteria…this is WORSE than the ‘duck and cover’ days. You have an entire generation of ‘the sky is falling’, and NOTHING IS HAPPENING. Amazing, never thought I’d see stuff like this in the USA.

  14. Copy and Paste! Really that sounds like an EVIL snake spitting venom . Bull Dog should have an edit feature so as to correct spelling and typo errors before it’s posted and add to our banter about contraversial subjet matter and comment on others thoughts and opinions within the origional post. I think it would make for an easier and more interesting read. Hot button political issues like climate change would be a perfect way for dislike minded indivuals much like the ones that haunt this electronic media to practice some degree of respect and kindess when considering each others point of view. We all walk different paths in life and see things differently in one way or another.

  15. Did you know, that a hybrid car does more damage to the environment before it is built than a 57 Chevy does running all day. A Toyota Prius has 42-60 pounds of copper depending on the model, stretched out it would be almost 3 miles long, to obtain 200lbs of copper it requires the mining and processing of 28,000lbs of material, there are about 4 million hybrid vehicles on the road in the US. A 57 Chevy is 90% steel and related metals and contains a mere 15ft of copper. Not to mention that hybrids also use nickel, cadmium, lead, lithium, gold, magnesium, and zinc, all of which are mined with big, carbon belching trucks and equipment from a big hole in the ground. And all hybrids and electric vehicles use fossil fuel generated electricity to charge off. The CAT 797F of which there are 1000 of this particular model in operation, hauls 400 tons in a single load has a 2000 gallon fuel tank and burns 30 gallons an hour, that’s equal to 200 cars sitting and idling for an hour that’s just one truck, there are about 25,000 of these big trucks including and similar to the CAT 797F in operation today, that’s equal to 5 million cars sitting and idling for an hour, every hybrid in the US running off batteries only, all day, every day couldn’t compensate for the emissions of these trucks in an hour. Hybrids make up only .4% of the cars on the road today in the US. The only thing green about a hybrid or electric vehicle is the money it takes to buy one.

  16. HB, I think you must have that speech about electric cars in some word doc that you frequently cut and paste. So, ok, you are correct about electric cars ……….. and?……….. This eliminates the need for young people to hold rallies so that politicians and other ‘responsible’ people will actually take action – say, for instance, quite producing electric cars?

What is wrong with bringing attention to the fact that the IPCC report, created from facts derived by 100’s if not 1000’s of scientists, might actually be truthful and accurate? Interesting that because of the letter above many people took time to write a comment. Guess the rally triggered something ……

Has anyone who commented here ever read the IPCC report on climate change? Let’s see a show of hands.

  17. I already talked about the IPCC climate report, if you’d paid attention, Ozerki. They used FRAUDULENT DATA. From the East Anglia University scandal, among other data collection manipulation schemes. They are STILL using that data! And other ‘normalizations’ have come to light. SO gullible. There IS no ‘consensus’. They sent out a survey to 1,000 scientists….50 returned them, most in favor, so – CONSENSUS, LOL!

A theory that cannot predict anything is NOT a theory! Unless you now suddenly want to change the scientific method? I understand, completely, that you cannot change a zealot’s mind – I just hope those ‘on the fence’ get to see the other side, which simply is presenting your “case”, and showing why your case is flawed. NONE of the ‘predicted’ phenomena has arrived, ever. It never does. Therefore, your climate change…formerly global warming, formerly global cooling…is based on FAITH. It is is cult, really, and not science. What goes with that cultish faith? Hysteria, of course.

They needed a scam global in size to entice people to give the UN, etc, massive power over nations. A problem so big, you can’t fix it or see if it’s being fixed, and also – you don’t have to do much. Just allow your freedom to be taken, bit by bit, and a little more of your paycheck, and property rights. It’s not like doing a neighborhood cleanup, where you WORK (ha ha) and get a result after…this baby has NO work involved, and will NEVER, EVER be finished. Just take a look at the climate protest movement…signs everywhere promoting socialism. “Gee, he’s a nutjob, says this is about promoting global socialism…”, right? Jeez.

Once you check into this ‘deal’, you’ll never check out, and the demands will get bigger and bigger. You’ve been warned. Take this seriously; your kids and grandchildrens’ futures ride on it. Until YOU can see some ‘planetary damage’ (not on TV!), don’t you think it might be wise to remain a bit skeptical?

CLIMATE CHANGES. THEN IT CHANGES BACK.

  18. I get all my stock tips from kids in school, NOT. How about kids stay in school to learn information that’s real. They cant even get the weather right for tomorrow much less what’s going to happen in the future.

  19. Ozerki, Actually I don’t cut and past anything, I just keep checking things to make sure the info is current, kind of pointless stating facts from the early 2000s if there is more current and accurate information available. If the climate is an ever changing entity, then how can data collected by “scientists” during Al Gore’s time possibly be relevant today? If one was to take all the modern equipment we have today and were around during the time of the dinosaurs when “scientists” claim the Earth had an average mean temperature of 90 degrees, I guarantee those “scientists” could not predict the eventual Ice Age. Scientists, archeologists, modern physicists, astrologists and millions of people believed that the end of the Mayan calendar in 12/21/12 was the end of the world and some said would lead to a massive antipodal shift, yet here it is 2019 and magnetic north is still north of Canada not north of the tip of Chile as it would be had the Earth had an antipodal shift. Physical science and theoretical science are two different things, in physical science you watch something to see what it does, in theoretical science you make a model to project the events you think will happen, and 9 times out of 10 theoretical science is wrong. Theoretical science says a baseball can be accelerated to near the speed of light and time travel, physical science says the instant acceleration of the baseball would cause it to break down into individual molecules and they would collide with the oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen molecules in the atmosphere and cause massive nuclear explosions in about 70 nanoseconds after the ball accelerated. So if the Earth was 90 degrees 65 million years ago, and we had an ice age which caused to Earth to cool, then who is to say that 90 degrees rather than the current 57 degrees isn’t the normal temperature of the Earth? It takes less time to heat things up than it does to cool them down. You can cook a steak in 10 mins but it might take an hour for that steak to cool to room temperature. Now think on a global scale, we came out of the ice age a mere 12,000 years ago, when the Earth had a temp of 45 degrees, it is at 57 now, that’s 1 degree every thousand years, that hasn’t changed. The Earth is getting warmer, but it’s natural not man made.

  20. “THE COMFORT OF THE LIE

The actual truth about climate change has been painfully clear for a long time

The truth, you see, doesn’t have a political agenda. It doesn’t care what you believe. It doesn’t change to suit your needs. The truth simply is.

And the truth of climate change has long made itself painfully clear. How many “500 year” floods must we endure, how many storms of the century have to batter us,…”

    https://journalstar.com/opinion/columnists/leonard-pitts-truth-of-climate-change-has-long-been-clear/article_45fa5cc0-d248-5b24-82bd-c9ba88af8e51.html

  21. @Marie E.

If you are going to claim to be the high priestess of the great god Truth, you need to scrounge up better credentials than a link to a piece by an opinion columnist.

  22. Marie E, Leonard Pitts really ? Try reading NASA’S report on the subject of the supposed climate change. I believe they know more than Mr Pitts does. You alarmists have been yelling the sky is falling since the 60s.

  23. Don’t bother try to convince Marie. This is a cult, and it’s not based on reason. We can only hope that using one’s intellect will become fashionable again. Maybe after we screw up the country so much we collapse.

  24. The TRUTH has been around for a long time. But those with their heads in the sand are at a big disadvantage – they think all the bad news will go away if they continue to ignore it.

Farmer/Sen. Black may not be a scientist, but he’s a good observer. The Dartmouth study and the Canadian Journal of Zoology point out hard evidence of climate change. Environmental and conservation groups follow the shifting of animal populations such as lobsters, chickadees, etc., due to recorded data on temperature change.

Please see this link to some info that NASA compiled: https://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus/

  25. These Info “sources” are funny…
    Keep em coming Marie,,
    We need comic relief,,,

Anyone can prove anything via the Internet..
    The Sky Is Falling !!!!!

  26. For anyone that frowns on internet sources (as if factual info doesn’t exist there), try going to the library.

There a lot of books available. Tip: check the Science section.

  27. Marie, do you drive a car? What model? Do you heat your house with oil or wood? Do you fly? Do you go on cruise ships? Do you use a gas powered lawn mower? weedeater? You mentioned Russell Black who raises beef cows so you most certainly want him to get rid of those methane producers immediately right? I could go on but let’s start with these.

  28. Marie,,
You act as if there is some truth test before a book gets published.
    Pretty sure everyone knows better…
Info war is raging,,, as it always has.
    Paper or Plastic?
    Are you serious?
Check the fiction section while you’re there.

  29. The US (and to some extent the UK) is the only place politics determines ones’ view on climate change. The data is so clear and overwhelming (and certainly does not rely on anything fraudulent – that’s a propaganda red herring) that conservatives and liberals world wide see this as something we need to address. It isn’t a left-right issue. In the US big money concerns have launched a propaganda campaign to try to deny and discredit concerns about climate change, and it’s worked. Many on the right become “skeptics” for political reasons, they’ve defined it as an “alarmist” view from “liberals” (even though the scientists I know are pretty consistent, regardless of their politics). The data is undeniable, the models are clear, and even if the 97% of climate scientists are somehow wrong, the consequences of them being right and us doing nothing are so dire that we’d risk condemning our children and grandchildren to a very difficult existence. Anyone who is skeptical about climate change is poorly informed. It’s like being skeptical that cigarettes cause lung cancer.

What to do about it is the harder question. Germany and the EU are working hard to get off fossil fuels by 2050, which has the added benefit of making them less reliant on the Mideast for energy. I personally think nuclear power is a good alternative (the French use that for most of their electricity), but some fearing a Chernobyl like problem oppose that. Some say industry should be regulated, others want solutions focused on incentives and minimal intervention in the market. These are legitimate debates. Claims that climate change isn’t a problem are simply, objectively, wrong.

  30. Marie E, There is no such thing as “climate” or the “the climate” the Earth doesn’t have one climate, but is made up of 6 individual climates, polar, temperate, tropical, arid, tundra and Mediterranean. the dinosaurs were reptiles, reptiles need it warm as they are cold blooded creatures and since they have been found on every continent science assumes that the Earth had to have a single climate in order to keep the dinos alive, but it is just pure guess work on their part as they have no way of knowing what the “climate” was like back then, and there is no real empirical data to back up the claim other than what science knows what modern reptiles need to survive. Creatures adapt all the time to their environments, I will use sharks for this example, Most people think sharks can only live in salt water, this is wrong, the bull shark has adapted to survive in fresh water and has been caught as far north as Illinois by swimming up the Mississippi River, science thought that the great white shark was a warm water shark, the Atlantic off the coast of Maine has an average summer temp of 54 degrees and a winter temp of 38 degrees, the great white has been spotted off the coast of Maine at various times throughout the year due to the fish’s ability to circulate its blood deep within its body where it warms and maintains the shark’s temperature even in cold water. The same is true of dinosaurs, they will have adapted to their environments, science calls it evolution, realists call it adaptation. And since only bones have been found of dinosaurs, science has no way of knowing what kind of soft tissue and body fluid adaptations the dinos may have gone through. Oh BTW, lobster prefer water that is 64 degrees, current temp is 54.4 degrees, 80 degree water temp is pushing it but they will not die off, just move to colder water, but if the Atlantic ocean reaches 80 degrees off the coast of Maine, it means all human life is dead because the air temp would be around 30,000 degrees off the coast of Maine, because basically 1/1000 of a degree rise in water temp means a 1 degree rise in air temp, so a 1 degree rise in ocean temp is 1000 degree rise in air temp. But thankfully the ocean holds some of the heat and doesn’t release it all into the atmosphere but when it does release some we get an El Nino and when it holds it in we get a La Nina, the ocean temp varies though, this month it’s 0.3 degrees(considered normal) in water temp, this time last year it was 0.5(considered hot) in 2017 it was -0.8(cold) It has been normal for the past 6 months, 1997 was a hot one, in the 2.0s for 7 months straight, and part of 1998 was in the 2.0s and what happened in 1998 with the ocean holding all that heat, we got a killer ice storm, and then what happened when all that pent up heat was released, we got a massive heat wave in 1999 that was bigger than the one we got in 1995. The ocean was warmer from 1991 to 1994 than it was/is from 2010 to 2019, the last decade has actually been fairly normal.

  31. Anyone ever see the bumper sticker that says,
“If you’re not pissed, you’re not paying attention”.. ?
‘Bout sums it up for them.

This climate farce is just another “something to be pissed about”.
They’ll flock together in their “self righteous indignation” against anyone with a smile on their face.
This makes them feel like they are accomplishing something.
    Kumbaya

  32. We? are the cause? Perhaps there are some natural causes? I’ve been reading recently about how earthquakes shift the poles and therefore the levels of the oceans. What happened to the glaciers that slowly moved down over the state of Maine? It must have warmed up a bit for them to melt.

  33. We’re not talking about climate change, the perfectly natural process that has been going on ever since there was a climate. We’re talking about Climate Change, the lowercase version PLUS the part contributed by the actions of humanity, which may or may not be significant.

Speaking to the uppercase crowd, please submit one specific policy proposal to address the problem, even partially. The proposal may not be the always invalid WE MUST DO SOMETHING!

How much will your proposal cost and who will pay the tab? If your answer is that government will, and knowing that government gets all its money by taxing individuals, how much will our taxes go up? Before you start typing …

How much will doing nothing cost? Please try to hold back the tears and lamentations of “It’s for the children!”

Finally, please provide links to three peer-reviewed articles / papers supporting the hypothesis, using the scientific method, that the policy proposal, mentioned above, will have the desired outcome. This should satisfy everyone except the modern-day followers of Torquemada.

    All right, two papers.

    OK, just one.

  34. A Canadian firm was just caught manipulating past climate data to give the appearance of warming.

It would be VERY WISE for people to have some skepticism around an idea (not a theory…it’s not science) that cannot be proven, and each attempt to do so fails. There is no sea level rise, and temperature fluctuates (my grandparents had worse storms, heat and colder winters in the 30s). The history of fraudsters and government working hand in hand is LONG AND DEPRESSING. You want to trust the same people who you said lied about Yellow Cake, LOL! It’s almost comical.

It would be MOST WISE to be skeptical when all these politicans and Leftists are claiming that the ONLY SOLUTION to this “problem” that the West does not have, is global socialism. The end of individual rights and property. That is an AWFULLY BIG THING to demand…anyone who wouldn’t ask how this worked out in other nations, and why WE would “do it right”…is a complete idiot in my book.

You don’t think they’d “make the lie this big” to get their agenda? I do. It’s not that many people driving this, and there is MASSIVE, MASSIVE money to be easily had, and power galore. Go ahead…get sucked in like other nations. You’ll be so sorry, it can’t be explained. Maybe seeing your kids down the dump looking for food will jar you back to reality one day. Losing our sovereignty and individual rights to a hysterical mass movement…never can end well. Never thought I’d see this happening in my country.

Also look up “ClimateGate”, where University of East Anglia outright falsified data. The UN still uses this data…and right now, the “hockey stick” is under scrutiny. The seas are not rising; the predictions are, as always, not happening. Elites are buying up the oceanfront property, happy as clams, knowing the mansion will be safe in 100 yrs, even if we see a 1.3C increase in temp, MAX.

  35. In just a matter of days the articles that I see have gone from Climate Change to Climate Crisis. It is now a crisis according to a lot of the media.
Better do ” something ” NOW!!! Just in time for elections. hmmmm.

  36. Like most people, I like to know the source of info.

American Thinker is a daily online magazine dealing with American politics, foreign policy, national security, Israel, economics, diplomacy, culture and military strategy with a conservative viewpoint.[2][3]

The magazine has been described as a conservative blog.”
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Thinker

Interesting to me that the ‘address’ of origin is El Cerrito, CA , a neighbor of Berkeley. And who said that Californians are Leftists? Bet this guy probably doesn’t have a TRUMP 2020 sticker on his car.

  37. HB, Have you read the IPCC report? Human activity has accelerated the climate change continuum. Check your figures – the change to which you refer has increased in frequency, it’s not a steady, incremental increase.

You are making an error by citing one specie at a time – some species do not adapt as quickly as others and all the ‘system’ takes is a handful to crash before it begins to collapse at an indeterminate rate, but it will collapse. So many people focus on just a few examples but don’t quantify the entire system. That was my work – I did. It’s not pretty what is happening.

  38. I’m still waiting for a hypothesis to test a proposal to fix some aspect of CC. But today it’s even less likely to appear than it was yesterday. Because …

A certain personage went before the UN, with chin a-tremble, eyes spitting fire, and scolded the whole world for stealing the future. The personage presented no solutions, no ideas, just an updated version of: 𝔄𝔟𝔞𝔫𝔡𝔬𝔫 𝔞𝔩𝔩 𝔥𝔬𝔭𝔢, 𝔶𝔢 𝔴𝔥𝔬 𝔢𝔫𝔱𝔢𝔯 𝔥𝔢𝔯𝔢.

Cue the Titanic’s orchestra to play another rendition of Nearer my God to Thee.

  39. Watched and listened a couple of the UN speeches.

The young on let us know how disappointed, and concerned she is with the older generations ability to put profits above people…..pretty clear statement. Another speaker said will strive for carbon neutral by 2045.

Meanwhile we drive a car that gets 40mpg….saving enough money to help pay down our mortgage a bit faster…..and we use a heat-pump hot water tank…..reducing our cost of hot water, and the carbon footprint for having made the water hot…..

Act local, save $ locally by making good, science backed decisions, and think global. Let science lead the way for both.

How about a pellet stove, vs oil furnace? Recently sequestered carbon, vs multimillion year old sequestered carbon.

She is right: Time to make a few changes.

  40. Ozerki, The Ice age ended 12,000 years ago, stone age humans commonly referred to as the Clovis people or Clovis Culture showed up about 13,500 years ago, did their massive reliance on fossil fuels to power their SUVs and transport their goods end the Ice Age, I’ll let you be the judge.

Here is why the past claims of science about the climate then vs now is fairly complicated and simple to figure out using basic science thermodynamics and a little chemistry. Scientists use ice cores to determine the chemical make up of the atmosphere thousands of years ago(or so they claim) to support a claim of less CO2 in the air then vs now, because their cores don’t show it, nor would they, CO2 is a heavier than air but lighter than water gas, an air current will blow them around, a cold air current keeps them close to the Earth(cold air sinks) and a warm current will make them rise(warm air rises), glaciers don’t start on flat ground, they start on mountains and as they grow they cover flat spots or make them as they slide down the mountain, the Greenland glaciers and Antarctica are surrounded by ocean water, ocean water is warmer than the air over them, the heat rising of the water causes the CO2 to rise, the air over the glaciers is cold, this will keep the carbon close to the ground where it will be blown(drift) to the warmer water where it is carried aloft(think similar to evaporation during the water cycle) some CO2 will then condense to form C2O2, which breaks down almost instantly and just get stuck in the air held in place by the warm air rising from the Earth and the cold air trying to get to Earth from space. So when CO2 levels are checked from the air the levels are high, and when they are checked from the ice they are low, because the they just don’t have much in them. There is no way to date carbon itself so there is absolutely no way of knowing just how old the CO2 in the atmosphere actually is nor how much there actually is because it doesn’t always stay up there.

  41. Marie E, I don’t use websites for information very often, I use emails, websites are good for a basic idea on the subject, but I like direct answers to my questions, it is called having a conversation even if by email, and I have found that quite a few people actually do respond to questions, the Smithsonian, NASA,(Nasa pushes the climate change thing because it gets them a bigger budget, but they don’t actually believe it.)NOAA, and dozens of others have responded to questions, hell, National Geographic even sent me a book and weather modeling software. But to answer your question, if I listed all the people I have emailed based on climate change, the mods at the Bulldog wouldn’t post it because it would be longer than some of the comments I have left.

  42. HB – well, you have outdone yourself, but some of what you say either is incorrect or missing key parts of the information. What is your source of CO2 12,000 years ago? And why bring up the clovis people? You forget as the planet warms more ice melts from the poles, like it did this year. That causes fresh water to flow into the cold arctic waters and make these water less dense because the salinity of the water is lower, thus reducing density. So, the usual weather patters that are driven by the cold dense water sinking, flowing down to the equator, then rising because they are warming, thus continuing the flow of the oceans that drive the weather. This adiabatic heating and cooling is being disrupted and it is from WARMING because more CO2 gets trapped in the UPPER atmosphere. You do remember that our air is made up of mostly N2 and O2, right? At any rate, our upper atmosphere, with higher CO2 concentrations holds reflected (sunlight – heat generated by various portions of the EMR spectrum) and acts as a barrier, which in turn causes clouds more often to occur which compounds the problem etc etc. The CO2 that you say exists and doesn’t rise, does rise some and is produced by cars, factories and so on – byproduct of combustion from most any organic compound. This CO2 doesn’t have to rise much, it still holds in heat (traps it). As ice melts it exposes more land, and now we have the methane problem CH4 …… worse than CO2 …… you get it. So, back to your comment(s) …… Huh?

  43. Ok Ozerki I have the rare night off so I will give you a basic science lesson. Natural CO2 is largely caused by the decaying of organic matter, you’re familiar with how photosynthesis works, yes? Well, as long as green things like plants for example are alive they keep absorbing CO2, they don’t release it, they with the help of water actually break the CO2 down in to Carbon and Oxygen, they release the O and retain the carbon, when they start to run out of storage room, the plant grows(yes putting your marijuana plants in a CO2 enriched environment will make them grow faster.) in order to hold more carbon. Carbon by itself is harmless, here some chemistry fir you, Carbon has 6 electrons and oxygen has 6, oxygen atoms are the lovers and the bullies of the atomic world, they hate being by themselves. that whole opposites attract thing, yup it’s true. Oxygen is a neutral having 3 positive electrons and 3 negative ones, but it is extremely extrovert and just want to be part of stuff, carbon on the other hand, carbon is a neutral but is somewhat introverted, it doesn’t mind being alone, but those pesky oxygen atoms, they will join together and form O2, they will join a hydrogen atom and become H1O1 and will become negatively charged and since hydrogen is a positive, a hydrogen atom will join the group and form H2O. Now when an oxygen atom finds a carbon atom, carbon by itself just sits in the soil and waits, then when something quite literally stirs up the dust the carbon atoms get bombarded by oxygen atoms and form CO2, another way carbon is released is by burning, 2 pounds of burning wood releases 4lbs of carbon which then mixes with the oxygen and forms CO2, forest fires release huge amounts of carbon and since the air is 21% oxygen, the carbon almost instantly becomes CO2 the carbon that isn’t released into the air becomes charcoal, coal, oil and other fossil fuels.

Now for some oceanography and fluid dynamics, The Oceans cover 71% of the planet and hold 90% of the world’s water, and can be divided into two groups, dense(cold water) and less dense(warm water), I will get to freshwater in a moment. there is one band of warm water(the middle) and 2 bands of cold water(Arctic and Antarctic), the dense cold water actually keeps the warm water from entering it, but should outside forces heat the cold water the warm water will “invade” the cold water. But here is a quick explanation of why the melting ice(not really melting) won’t have much of an effect on the oceans, similar to what happens in an estuary, saltwater and freshwater don’t instantly mix, they probably will but it may take 10s of thousands of years for them to do so, saltwater is denser than freshwater due to all the salt and other minerals in it so the freshwater will float on top of the saltwater as it is less dense than the saltwater is. And since the water cycle evaporates the the top layer of the ocean, most of the freshwater will be redeposited back onto the land as that is where the tide tends to push things that float on it,

The clouds trapping the heat, yup that they do, but they also produce rain, ever gone outside after a good rain and thought “Wow the air is cooler and crisper, that’s not the temp that does that, it’s the rain that washed the carbon out of the air as CO2 dissolves in the water and carried it into the soil or washed it into the water where green aquatic plants suck it up and hold on to it, estimates, only 35-40% of the total carbon produced actually makes it into the atmosphere. As for the methane, burn it, blow the fumes through a carbon scrubber, take the carbon and bury it somewhere out of the way.

  44. Hey Watched…did you watch the predictions made over the last 40 years? NOT A SINGLE ONE has come to pass. NADA.

Real science has predictive value. “Climate change” (nee global warming, nee global cooling) is not a real theory, as it cannot satisfy that requirement. It is pseudo-science which changes its mind constantly and makes excuses for why its predictions fail, and is more like a cult than anything else. We need to SUSPEND the rules of science to ‘make it work! The religion of the Left – gives you an excuse to turn everything over to a small group of elites and not have to do squat yourself, like clean up trash by the road. Too bad you’re so against the USA, since the USA is such a CLEAN, basically NON POLLUTING nation, compared to everyone else…you’re doing it for nothing! Look to China, India…nothing you could do will improve ONE thing. But you WILL harm your neighbors; bet that doesn’t bother you much, though.

I hope the individual rights you surrender don’t end up being taken over by something like the Trump cabinet :) Could happen VERY, VERY easily, you know….oh, you gonna be sorry once it really happens. They always are.

  45. Over regulated: Yes, I have been reading, watching listening and learning for more than 50 years, have you?

Watched the moon missions progress, and make it, watched the winter snow reduce in the Northeast, participated in a business that recycled CO2 from industrial systems, been fascinated with the reductions in summer ice in the arctic, and the discoveries concerning glaciers around the world. Went to Glacier National Park, to see what’s left of the Glaciers……

I have lived in the blossoming of the energy consumption age, from way back when a family of five might have one car for five people, until now when that family of five may have four cars…..

How much coal do we still consume? oil and natural gas do we burn? Now that we have been joined by many other nations, is it not reasonable to expect the atmospheric concentration of CO2 to increase? And measurable, too.

And CO2 is a greenhouse gas? Hmm…. Is it contributing to climate change? I believe so….

Your point seems to be…its all a lie….Have you checked with the island nations that are disappearing? How about the Aleutian Islands? Maybe sampled the permafrost area of the arctic that are melting?

Is it climate change you do not believe in, or mankind induced climate change?

PS: I was vaccinated for polio, and guess what? I did not get polio! And small pox? Vaccinated, and I did not get smallpox.

  46. Watched and listened, Since you mentioned snowfall, I thought I’d share some things that the good folks at NOAA were nice enough to share with me, in 1954 Maine saw 181 inches of snow, that’s a lot of snow. In 2007 Maine saw 197 inches of snow, that’s even more snow. In 1971 Maine got 137 inches, last year Maine got 135 inches, in 1968 Maine got 152 inches, in 2013 Maine got 151 inches. Our average snowfall is 115 inches, in the 1900s it was 80 inches. Between 1900 and 1904 we had 4 days every year over 90 degrees, between 1920 and 1924 we had 2 days that were over 90 degrees every year, between 1940 and 1950 Maine had 6 to 6.5 days every year that were over 90 degrees, but from 2010 to 2014 we had less than 4 days every year that were over 90 degrees, from 2014 to 2019 we had 3 days that were over 90 degrees, hummmm, less days now than in 1900. But from 1900 to 2019 we have had only 40 years with more than 4 days that were above 90 and 80 years with 3 or less days over 90, with 50 of those low years being between 1951 and 2019, so if the Earth is getting warmer, you couldn’t tell that by looking at Maine’s weather and temperatures.

  47. HB – nice try, but you again fall short. Of course I can benefit from a lesson, but your detailed explanation does nothing to address the points to which I responded in one of your other posts. You simply divert a conversation to something that appears to address my questions/statements but doesn’t really. Your comment about estuaries is a complete red herring and does not come close to demonstrating the understanding of how the global weather system works. I do have to thank you for making a case against the NECEC with your dissertation about the Carbon cycle and photosynthesis. I will send that along to doug herling and Sandi Howard. Your ice core example will show that there have been pretty consistent concentrations of CO2 over a long period of time until the 1960’s when they began to rise significantly and the only explanation is man’s insatiable appetite to pollute. I also want to ask again if you have read the IPCC report, you seem to dodge that question with your usual panache. At any rate, I have made my point from several different directions. It would be interesting to continue to discuss things with you, but you would need to promise to directly refer to my questions and comments rather than take a discussion in an oblique direction.

  48. Heartless, thanks for trying to educate the liberals. Your efforts are honorable but I suspect the audience has little use for science or history that contradicts the liberal talking points that they have been indoctrinated with.

  49. Peter – think you were reading upside down. And please enlighten me on those ‘liberal talking points’. Would love to find out what those are. Maybe I could even use one or two. It would be advisable for you to re-read many of the posts ….. you might learn something about science yourself. However, I wonder why these type of discussions always seem to attract someone who wants to make this a liberal v conservative controversy rather than sticking to facts and science. You do know that monarch butterflies are now gathering to migrate to Mexico, right?

  50. Melting permafrost in the Arctic is unlocking diseases and warping the landscape
In Bethel, Alaska, roadways are literally rippling and warping as the ground beneath them becomes less solid. In other places, the melting permafrost is creating craters and sinkholes. “You see buildings that are kind of slumping into the ground; you see that a lot in the Russian Arctic,” Holmes says. Civil engineers are experimenting with new types of pilings and foundations to help keep Arctic buildings on strong footing. There is one crater in Siberia so large it’s gotten the nickname “doorway to the underworld.” It’s a kilometer long and up to 100 meters deep. And it’s growing larger every year.”

  51. Marie E so the diseases resurfacing in Cali is from glacier melt ? I thought it was unvaccinated immigrants bringing it back and unvaccinated kids were catching them. Maybe it’s from the trash and human excrement or the dirty needles. Also I heard little Greta talking about eco systems which eco systems are dying because of “climate crisis” ?

  52. “Quick! Burn the Constitution, pass your freedoms to the politicians – THEY’LL save you!! Only THEY have the means!!!!!!”

  53. Hate to tell you, Marie…if things are as bad as the hysteria makes them out to be….there is no reversing ‘climate change’, even if we returned to 1500’s levels of emissions. That would mean that AOC is correct, and life on earth is probably over. The US ending ALL production would do NOTHING. Party on!

  54. Bee humble. Bee kind. Bee self-sufficient. I applaude people like Greta Thunberg for standing up for what she believes in. Who wants to praise me for having a smaller carbon footprint in an entire year than Greta’s just in the flight to make her speech?

  55. Mine too, Amanda. I burn <30 gallons of heating oil per year…my heat come from all renewable firewood burned in an EPA-approved stove. Until, of course, the EPA doesn't approve of it any longer, and uses force to make me change my ways. But hey, I can signal my virtue ALL OVER the place! I barely even use electricity, and I don't buy new things very often. I will fight back on these alarmists all day, and I WALK THE WALK that THEY won't. Funny, huh? Oh, but it sounds so lovely and dramatic to make these huge pronouncements (when you won't even pick up the trash on the sidewalk on High Street. They just want to force OTHERS to do it).

It's interesting that all of the climate talking heads live in mansions and eat up the electricity that 25 homes would take, and fly around in private jets, rubbing elbows with the big wigs at huge galas….why, that's an awful lot like the privileged class in socialist nations, isn't it??

  56. Marie – she had a crew FLY OVER to sail her back!! Her PLASTIC boat (which cost a fortune…) is so bad for the environment, it’s a joke, and took massive amounts of energy to build (just like a wind turbine)! Why didn’t she (and Mills) use SKYPE to ‘address the UN’ instead of GOING THERE?? They talk the talk, but don”t WALK THE WALK, as always. Virtue signalling – “look at ME, I’m GREEN!”

You folks are SO, SO, SO gullible. Me, a conservative, is FAR more “carbon neutral” and nature-friendly than someone like she is, bwahahahaha! They probably don’t even go outdoors like many conservatives, working. You guys are addicted to the DRAMA, not the daily drudge of living in a rural place that requires labor, doing environmental work like going around collecting used motor oil, picking up disgusting trash at highway rest areas, pulling dead animals out of water supply intakes, doing soil borings at gas stations and compiling data….what you are showing IS NOT ENVIRONMENTALISM. It’s just political maneuvering for control. You won’t do the work for real environmentalism! That is why conservatives are SO against you!

You seem to have no idea what you’re talking about – you just link to things and spread talking points, as if they were your ammunition. “See! See! Take that!”. Marie: go outside. Pick up 1 black bag full of trash in downtown Farmington. Not on ‘a nature walk’, right along Front St or Rt. 2, or High St where the college kids toss things after protesting for the environment.

Talk talk talk talk talk – vote, hope to get power for your elites – talk talk talk talk…just a political movement.

  57. Marie E, I am currently working for CSX in Hyde Park MA and have been for the past few weeks and I have never seen any icebergs off the Cape, that must be proof of global warming or climate change as it is now known after global warming got debunked, oh wait….yes there was in 2015 when a bunch of sea ice washed ashore, but if the Earth is getting warmer, where did the sea ice come from? Every time somebody says the Earth is getting warmer we get a record cold snap, why is that do you suppose?

Ozerki, I addressed your questions in a comment the Mods decided not to post, so maybe they held on to the post, so if you wish my answers to your questions, pressure the Mods to post the comment.

  58. The long diatribes that pass for “insight” must take a lot of time away from actually doing anything good for the planet, in spite of assertions to the contrary.

  59. Greta doesn’t know how she will eventually return to Sweden. She has plans to travel overland across the Americas to arrive in Chile in December.

  60. Marie E, You would be surprised how I help the environment and the economy for example, did you know that a single CSX locomotive can haul 1 ton of freight 471 miles on a single gallon fuel, without people like me to keep them running and maintained, it would require more trucks on the road that can haul 1 ton of freight 10 miles on a single gallon of fuel. Which is why most of the trucks have a 300 gallon fuel capacity.

  61. So have any of you fellows that seem so against the climate change message stopped long enough to realize the following. Even if the whole message is a load of malarkey, the end result would be making the planet a better place for all of us and future generations to live.

How anyone could say that it’s a bad idea to clean up not only the planet, but the things we do everyday, is beyond my comprehension and I for one would be embarrassed to be so short sighted.

  62. To the Score Keeper……Did you back out HB’s commute to MA? From all the comments on the local DB all this time,….seems he is from around here. Hopefully not commuting clear to MA in a pick up truck at less than 20 mgp.

Environmentalist have long advocated the use of trains for transport of goods (and people.) Unfortunately, the convenience of trucks (and cars) wins out. Glad to hear that HB’s current work supports trains.
