Letter to the Editor: I support Ed David for District 113

It is critical that voters elect to office representatives who listen to all sides, do their homework and think for themselves but also know how to work together for the common good. In addition, they should be able to express their ideas in a clear, well-informed and common sense manner that all can understand.

On Nov. 4, Election Day, I will support Ed David of Farmington, who is running for the House District 113 seat that represents Farmington and New Sharon, because I believe he will do the best job.

To learn more about the candidates’ positions on the issues that affect all of us, watch the video of the well-attended debate between Ed and his Republican opponent, Andy Buckland, filmed by Mt. Blue TV on Sept. 30 at the University of Maine at Farmington. The video can be found at www.mtbluetv.org.

Ed is someone who will fight for what is right and just, and is not one to be pressured by outside interests. His interests are what is best for the people in his district and his state.

Through his 12 years as a director with the Greater Franklin Development Corporation, he has been a strong supporter for economic development. I remember well when GFDC directors went out on a limb and bought the former MBNA building on Main Street – without a tenant but with the faith they could find one. This kept the prime commercial property from being sold to a non-profit and assured it remained on the tax rolls. The directors secured the Notify MD call center and the company remains a major employer in Farmington.

GFDC, with Ed as its longtime treasurer, has worked behind the scenes to bring in the Comfort Inn, Poland Spring, and many other businesses and actively works to attract new businesses and assist existing ones.

Ed is also involved in town government, attending meetings and serving on committees that developed Farmington’s comprehensive plan, zoning plan, and related ordinances.

If elected, he has committed to working on a bipartisan plan that would improve access to health care; advocating for fairness in the workplace; and standing up for domestic violence prevention, an issue he encountered far too many times through his 39 years in family law practice.

I have known Ed for years and am excited to have him on the ballot. We would all benefit from his wisdom and his fairness, and foremost, his ability to listen to others.

  1. It makes one wonder when somebody has to ‘portray’ himself as a “regular guy” and a family lawyer
when in actuality he is a divorce lawyer.

  2. And no Captain Planet, we need good people with common sense in Augusta–not more lawyers. I know of
an instance when a bill was presented in two concise paragraphs (3/4 of a page of underable language but committee felt that the lawyer should check it over. The finished product then became 23 pages after all the ‘where of, whereby and wherefores’ got inserted as well as other unnecessary legal jargon. It was
    totally confusing and easily misunderstood.
